JAMMU, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday reiterated the police force’s unwavering commitment to upholding justice, emphasizing the guiding principle laid down by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha: “Do not touch the innocent, and do not spare the guilty.”
Speaking at a public function in Srinagar, Prabhat described the mantra as a moral compass shaping the daily operations of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. “This principle defines our responsibility and remains at the heart of our work,” he said, adding that the force is committed to fairness, accountability, and justice for every citizen.
The DGP underlined that the police are not just enforcers of law but also first responders to people in pain, distress, or despair. “We reach out to those suffering. For those who have no support, we become that support,” he said.
Addressing the challenges of modern policing, Prabhat likened the role of police officers to high achievers in various fields. “I often tell my team—aspire like someone going for a Nobel Prize in Physics or a gold medal in Mathematics. We must be prepared to deliver excellence in every form and act as true agents of change,” he said.
Prabhat also highlighted that the mission of policing goes beyond crime control. “No societal issue is beyond the purview of the police. Delivering justice, in every form, is our core mission,” he remarked, while urging society to cooperate with law enforcement in combating crime and upholding order.
He cited a recent case involving job fraud, calling it a “clear-cut case of cheating” and appealed to the public to be vigilant. “We must stop falling for the same tricks. Let’s open our eyes before it’s too late,” he said, emphasizing that awareness and community participation form the first line of defense against crime.
Commenting on broader legal reforms, Prabhat said the newly enacted laws by the Union Government are now being operationalized across Jammu and Kashmir. These laws, he said, are designed to ensure a victim-centric approach to justice. “The focus is on swift action — catching culprits, attaching their assets, and delivering justice without delay,” he added.
On the continuing fight against terrorism, drugs, gangsters, and general crime, the DGP said every day is a test for the police. “We must deliver results that reflect courage, professionalism, and public trust. And we will continue to stand by the people in every such fight,” Prabhat asserted.
