Highligts challenges faced by Visually Challenged people in J&K
Srinagar August 8th : Noted Social Activist and Chairman RTI Movement Jammu & Kashmir Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat had a meeting with Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Ramdas Athawale in Srinagar.
The Union Minister was on a one way day visit to Srinagar on Thursday.
Dr Raja Muzaffar raised the challenges faced by persons with disabilities especailly the visually challenged (blind) people in Jammu & Kashmir . He urged upon the Union Minister to pave a way for setting up of some schools for blind children and youth in J&K.
Dr Raja Muzaffar told Union Minister that visually challenged people especially those with 100 % blindness were not given proper reservation in Govt jobs. He demanded that skill development institutions for visually challenged youth be set up in J&K by Govt and private sector so that this community could get benifitted. Raja Muzaffar invited Union Minister for a conference on visually challenged which would be held in September & Union Minister accepted the invitation
“The Minister accepted my invitation and we would hold this conference in Srinagar where all the issues pertaining to visually challenged and persons with other disabilities would be disussed. It is unfortunate that there are no special schools for persons with disabilities especially visually challenged people in J&K “ said Dr Raja Muzaffar
