Female doc parks car on roadside, cops deflate tyres: Rules are for everyone, says police

SRINAGAR, May 30: Cops on Saturday deflated tyres of a female doctor’s vehicle who had parked car on the roadside in Baramulla district. 

She accused cops for mishandling while police said rules are for everyone and tyres of her vehicle were deflated for violation of traffic rules.

There have been growing cases of allegedly  harassment of doctors and paramedics by cops in Kashmir. 

While on Saturday, a female doctor claimed harassment when cops deflated tyres of medical officer Kunzar’s car who had parked her vehicle on the roadside at Noor ul Huda market Baramulla.

“I had gone inside Dr Farooq’s clinic and parked my car outside. They (cops) deflated tyres of my car,” she told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service.

Eye witnesses told news agency that the medical officer then disembarked from her vehicle and shouted at cops for deflected tyres of her car

A video has also gone viral where the doctor is yelling at cops. “Why should I speak politely? Why would I inflate tyres of my car,” she is seeing telling a senior cop, who is trying to pacify her.

Later senior police officials including DSP reached to the spot and pacified the matter. The DSP also helped her to inflate tyres of her vehicle.

A police official said the cops were not at the fault. “She had parked her car on the roadside. Some policemen deflated tyres of several vehicles for violation of violation of rules. Rules are for everyone and why doctors asking for special treatment,” the official said.

SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom said, “I again appeal doctors and paramedics if they face any harassment please bring into the notice of police officers we will take action against erring cops. We are for the welfare of people.”

Recently, CMO Bandipora Dr Syed Tajamul Hussain official vehicle was stopped by cops near district hospital complex at Nusoo Bandipora.

Earlier, a senior cardiologist at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital has alleged that he was harassed and beaten up by the police while he was en route to the hospital on May 23. 

Following the incident, the IGP Kashmir said, “Whatever incident has taken place, we shall look into it, conduct an impartial inquiry, and take due action. We have taken a strong notice of complaints appearing in media about police personnel discharging their duties on the roads.”(KINS)
