SONAWARI, Nov 9: In a significant step for rural healthcare, MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone and Director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangir Bakhshi, inaugurated the first-ever dialysis unit in a rural hospital at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sumbal, Sonawari, yesterday. This facility is set to cater specifically to the residents of the Sonawari belt, providing critical relief for patients who previously had to travel to urban centers for dialysis.

The establishment of this unit at CHC Sumbal marks a significant achievement in bringing advanced medical care to rural areas. Addressing attendees at the inauguration, MLA Lone praised the relentless efforts of Dr. Syed Idrees Qadiri, Block Medical Officer (BMO) of CHC Sumbal, who played a vital role in making the dialysis unit a reality for the community. “This is a monumental moment for healthcare in our region,” Lone stated, recognizing Dr. Qadiri’s dedication in overcoming logistical and infrastructural challenges to ensure the people of Sonawari can access this essential service close to home.
Dr. Jahangir Bakhshi, Director of Health Services Kashmir, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the department’s commitment to delivering advanced healthcare services to rural populations. “Our goal is to make high-quality medical services accessible to those who cannot afford frequent trips to city hospitals. This dialysis unit will directly benefit poor and needy patients who face financial and logistical barriers in accessing healthcare in urban centers,” Dr. Bakhshi said.
The dialysis unit is expected to serve a large number of patients in the area, providing essential treatment to individuals with kidney-related illnesses who would otherwise face significant hardship in receiving care.
