Says every single entity of state’s cultural life facing existential crisis
Srinagar, September 28, : Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday asserted that the speech of PM Modi at United Nations General assembly belie the actions undertaken by his government in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Party said the speech of PM Modi in the UNGA eulogizing the Country on being the biggest democracy is no less than travesty. “The communities of world leaders are judging the Modi led government on its actions in the state of J&K. The unprecedented clampdown, gags on press, clampdown on internet and mobile telephony has entered its 55th day. All the legitimate political voices of the state including three former chief ministers continue to remain incarcerated. Scores of political activists, civil society leaders are also facing penitentiary. People are not allowed to come out and give vent to their anger and frustration by staging peaceful protests. And here we have the PM talk big on democracy and development. The idea development is impossible without having due respect for human rights. Unfortunately ever since the unconstitutional abrogation of Art 370, Art 35-A was carried out, the people of the state have been denied of their basic civil liberties,” party said.
In a statement to CNS, Party said the state of Jammu and Kashmir was robbed of its status and demoted to a status of union territory on the alleged reason of development. “On the contrary what has happened is not hidden from any one. The statutes of the J&K state reorganization act has demoted the elected Government of the state to just a petty administrative authority with no effective powers. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the role of the elected government in the state as per new arrangement would be insignificant. The unilateral act of robbing J&K’s status explicitly reveals that there is no scope for an empowered Muslim majority state in Modi’s and Amit Shah’s India. Having an empowered Muslim Majority state within the union had been a source of pride for the Indian democratic system. However the incumbent ruling dispensation has no respect for the country’s secular credentials. ”
Party said the people of the state are facing existential crisis. “By the unilateral and unconstitutional abrogation of the Art 370, Art 35-A, the GOI led by BJP-RSS has opened the flood gates of state for others to encroach on our land, identity and set of beliefs. The fate of the socio-religious complexes and the political aspirations of the people of state have been put on peril. The culture, the language, the history, the customs; every single entity of our state’s cultural life is facing existential crisis. The job prospects of our youth will become bleak with each passing day. The pool of officials governing the state will eventually become less representative of local population. Even now we have an alien oligarchy deciding the fate of natives of the state. The state had chosen to be part of union of India on the assurances of the Union of India that the very individuality of the state shall be protected. However the country didn’t prove true to its word,” party said.
While rejecting BJP’s statement that the Art 370, Art 35-A was supplanted on the people of J&K party said, “ The BJP is spreading lies on art 370,art 35-A. Art 370 owes is being to the instrument of accession, which was conditional in nature. Moreover art 35-A has been around 1927. The BJP is spearheading a misinformation campaign in the country to hide its failures on economic front.” (CNS)
