Baramulla, Nov 29 – Following the death of a woman allegedly due to the negligence of doctors at district hospital Baramulla, the family members and relatives staged a protest demonstration, seeking justice.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch stated that the family members of deceased Dilshada Akthar (32) on Wednesday assembled outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Baramulla to register their protest against GMC Baramulla.

They shouted slogans against the Hospital Administration, doctors, and demanded justice.

The protesting family and relatives of the deceased woman held the hospital authorities responsible for the death of their daughter.

Talking to Kashmir Despatch, one of the protesting relative of the deceased said, “We want justice and stern action against the doctor who operated on her daughter.”

She lamented that the authorities’ response to such unfortunate incidents is always the same. They form a team to inquire into the case, but how much longer will people continue to suffer?

“Today it was our daughter, tomorrow it might be yours. So, the authorities should work on the ground instead of making empty statements about better healthcare on social media platforms,” she added.

She appealed to DC Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, to intervene in this issue and seek justice.

Another protesting relative said, “We really don’t want to take the law into our own hands, we only appeal for justice.”

“We are pleading in front of DC Mam, as we have a lot of hope in her to direct the authorities to thoroughly investigate the death of our daughter,” he added.

He further expressed the pain that the family has gone through, losing both a daughter and a mother, and stated that their pain cannot be explained in words.

Reacting to the issue, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Baramulla, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, issued a statement to Kashmir Despatch, saying that immediate action has been taken to ensure a thorough investigation into the case.

He stated that a committee of seasoned professionals is being constituted to examine the case in detail, and their findings will be made public as soon as the investigation concludes.

In adherence to the commitment to transparency and accountability, the Head of the Department of Gynaecology at GMC Baramulla has been directed to provide a comprehensive incident report within one day. This report will shed light on the events leading up to Mrs. Dilshada’s demise and provide a thorough understanding of the medical care provided.

“We understand the importance of a fair and impartial inquiry, and we are fully committed to cooperating with the committee to ensure a transparent examination of the case,” the statement further reads.
