SHOPIAN, Sep 9: Government High school in Shadab Karewa in district Shopian lacks basic facilities forcing many students to quit the school and join the drop outs in the district.
Having 250 students on roll, the school which was established more thae 40 years ago has four buildings in which teachers have to adjust primary classes and also accommodate the school equipment.
“Many parents have either withdrawn their wards from this school or admitted them to some other schools while many other students have quit schooling altogether as the school lacks all the basic facilities,” said Ghulam Rasool, a local while talking to Kashmir Despatch.
The school has a computer lab which was sanctioned in 2014 but there are no computer teachers to teach the subject. The school infrastructure including doors, roof and window panes are in damaged condition.
“Even the students are being taught using damaged blackboards as well,” said a student wishing not to be named.
The locals also said that they have in the past apprised the zonal educational officer and other concerned authorities about the issue but nothing has been done so far.
