Govt withdraws arrested DSP Davinder Singh’s Sher-e-Kashmir police medal for gallantry

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has withdrawn the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry awarded to Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh, who has been arrested for helping militants travel out of Jammu and Kashmir, an official order said.

It said the suspended officer’s act amounted to disloyalty and brought the force into disrepute.

According to Government Order No. 09 – Home of 2020, Singh was awarded Jammu and Kashmir’s highest police award in 2018.

Police arrested Singh at Mir Bazaar in Kulgam district on Saturday, along with Hizbul Mujahideen militants Naveed Baba and Altaf, besides a lawyer who was operating as an overground worker for outfits.

“Consequent upon the arrest of Davinder Singh, Dy. SP on 11.01.2020 while trying to assist terrorists to travel outside J&K and recovery of arms and ammunition in the case FIR No. 05/2020 u/s 7/25 A. Act, 3/4 E.S Act, 18/19/20/38 & 39 of ULA(P) Act, P/S Qazigund, which amounts to disloyalty and conduct that has brought the force into disrepute, the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry, awarded to him vide Government Order No. Home-1050 of 2018 dated 14.08.2018, is hereby forfeited,” reads the government order, signed by Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary (Home).
