Gurez avalanche: Admin ropes in special SDRF team to rescue missing person

Gurez, Feb 23: The authorities on Sunday deputed a special SDRF team to Gurez to trace out the missing person after avalanche hit Chak Nallah area of Gurez on 15 February.

A man had gone missing after an avalanche hit the Chak Nallah area at around 2:30 pm on 15 February. 

Three persons we’re travelling on foot to Tulail from Dawar when an avalanche struck the area.

Two persons, however, managed to escape from the spot while the third one was buried alive under the snow avalanche.

The missing person was identified as Javid Ahmad a resident of Dangithal area of Tulail.

Civil administration along with army, police and locals had launched a rescue operation to trace the missing persons, however, even after more than a week they failed to trace him.

An official said that the administration has now roped in a special SDRF team to rescue the missing person.

“The team was deputed to Gurez today morning in a specially arranged MIG-7 aircraft. They have reached the spot and rescue operation is on to trace out the missing person, ” he said.

SDM Gurez, Muhammad Abdullah confirmed that a special SDRF team has arrived on the spot and rescue operation was going on.
