Kupwara: People of Tangdhar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday registered their protest over the continue border firing and civilian casualties in Pakistan shelling and demanded setting up of “individual bunkers” at their residences near the Line of Control.
The protesting Tangdhar residents talking with Kashmir Despatch said we are witnessing continue cross border shelling, in which not only human lives were lost but has damaged our residential houses as well, they said It is very difficult even to move towards safer places in winter because weather conditions are harsh. The protesting residents demanded immediate construction of individual bankers in the area said due to frequent ceasefire violations our education and business have suffered huge losses.
Sajad Ahmed a protestor told Kashmir Despatch that we border residents are suffering a lot as already we people are without basic amenities and now cross border shelling has become common after every few days there is shelling which adds to our sufferings. He said Govt must act and save us from the wrath of shelling’ to set up “individual bunkers so that we can survive.
Farooq Sadiq a resident of Karnah Tangdhar said “There is chaos every day now, Men, women, and children are crying every day. The shrieks could be heard throughout the nights and People almost had lost the hope for survival. He said the government’s assurances to the border residents time and again for their relief and rehabilitation but nothing tangible had been delivered so far.
Amir Ahmed another protestor said Where is the administration? Where are the ministers? They come to us only to seek votes, he, however, added that the Government of India must protect the lives of people and take all the protective measures.
Shamshad an elderly woman told this Newspaper “What can the village people do? We are there for their target practice.” as since decades authorities are not serious about protecting the lives of border people.
The protesting residents appealed to the LG Murmu to look into the sufferings of border residents so that the people living along the Border areas get some relief.
Pertinent to mention here that tensions along the LoC have escalated post-BJP-led government scrapped Article 370 that granted J&K a special status and its bifurcation into Union territories on August 04 2019.
