Sopore: Mehndi Ali, a student from Afghanistan, undertook a heartfelt journey to participate in the Muharram Procession held in the Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Muharram, a significant month in the Islamic calendar, witnessed Ali’s presence in Sopore as he traversed from Afghanistan to join the auspicious occasion.
His journey symbolizes the power of shared faith that transcends borders.
Ali’s connection to Kashmir was established during his studies at Guru Nanak University in Punjab’s Amritsar district, where he became acquainted with one of his professors, a resident of Sopore.
Their conversations about the beauty and significance of Kashmir culminated in Ali’s decision to be part of the Muharram celebration in the region.
Reflecting on his experience, Ali expressed profound gratitude for the hospitality and warmth extended by the people of Sopore.
Over the past four days, he has been embraced by the community, leaving him deeply moved by their kindness and support.
“The people here are incredibly nice and supportive. I am beyond words to describe the hospitality I have received,” Ali shared in an exclusive interview with Kashmir Despatch.
Ali’s journey is not just limited to the Muharram celebrations. He expressed a desire to explore other places in Kashmir, captivated by its breathtaking beauty, before he returns to Punjab.
In a poignant observation, Ali emphasized that there is no difference in the essence of the Muharram Procession between Afghanistan and Kashmir. The shared tradition and spirit of the occasion bind people together, regardless of their geographical origins.
As Ali prepares to bid farewell to Kashmir, he carries with him a resolute intention to share a positive message with the world, illuminating the spirit of unity and love that prevailed during his stay in Kashmir.
