Hopeful for good voter turnout in Baramulla LS segment on May 20: CEO PK Pole

SRINAGAR, May 03: Chief Election Officer J&K Pandurag K Pole Friday hoped for a good voter turnout from north Kashmir’s Baramulla Lok Sabha segment on May 20. He urged youth and first-time voters to take part in voting and exercise their democratic right for the better future of nation.

Pole who visited Baramulla Lok Sabha Constituency today to conduct a thorough inspection of the Counting Center and Strong Rooms designated for the 1-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency at the Indoor Sports Stadium in Baramulla said the visit aimed to ensure seamless arrangements for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

He was accompanied by Returning Officer 1-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, Minga Sherpa, Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagapure, Nodal Officer Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Syed Qamar Sajad, Assistant Returning Officer, Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, Dy District Election Officer, Ab Rehman Bhat and other concerned officers.

The CEO was comprehensively briefed by the RO regarding the arrangements to ensure a smooth electoral process and was informed that the district administration had diligently implemented all necessary measures in compliance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

In a proactive step towards environmental conservation, P. K. Pole planted saplings within the premises of the counting centre to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the centre’s surroundings while promoting ecological sustainability.

Speaking during the visit, P.K. Pole underscored the critical importance of robust arrangements and strict adherence to electoral protocols set by the Election Commission of India for safeguarding the sanctity of this democratic process,” the official statement said. The constituency votes on May 20.

Speaking to reporters, CEO J&K Pole said from last 5 to 6 months the poll preparations have been started however with the announcement of election schedule by Election Commission of India the pace of preparations has been geared up since.

“From Kupwara 19 nominations have been received and it is hoped more candidates will come in the fray. Similarly from Anantnag 20 candidates are in the fray, Srinagar 24, and Baramulla 19,” Pole said. He added the footfall of candidates reflect enthusiasm from those who wish to contest elections.

Regarding arrangements he said facilities for smooth conduct of polls have been put in place. “We will have separate helpers both for men and women at each polling station,” he said.

Urging voters to step out on the polling day, the CEO said voters are duty bound to reach polling booths on polling day and exercise their democratic right in favor of their loving candidate.”Young voters are curious and are eagerly waiting for the day when polling take place. I assure youth and first-time voters that all required arrangements will be in place for them. I am hopeful there will be a good voting percentage on May 20 in Baramulla Lok Sabha Constituency,” he said.
