SRINAGAR, May 26: There seems no end of alleged harassment by policemen to doctors and paramedics who are on the forefront to contain the COVID-19.

The latest case surfaced from Bandipora when CMO Bandipora Dr Syed Tajamul Hussain official vehicle was stopped by cops near district hospital complex at Nusoo Bandipora.

“I left my office and was on way to visit various quarantine centres and monitor sample collection centres. We were stopped by policemen and asked us to turn back and choose another route. They had laid barricades and concertina wires. My driver told them this is CMO Bandipora vehicle and we have to visit quarantine centres. Despite that they (policemen) did not allow us,” Dr Tajamul told news agency.

The CMO said he disembarked from his vehicle and shouted at policemen. “I then called DC Bandipora and told him about the incident. It was only after his intervention that a DSP arrived there and we were allowed to go,” he said.

“Our DC sahib has issued instructions despite that policemen are creating hurdles in essential services. Even a senior cardiologist of Srinagar was harassed. These things are very condemnable,” he said.

A video has also gone viral where CMO Bandipora is seen shouting at policemen for not allowing him to go. “You ask SP Sahab,” a cop is seen telling him in the video.

“Who the hell you are. We are risking our lives. My driver told you this is CMO vehicle despite that you are not allowing us to go,” Dr Tajamul is seen saying the video.

Earlier, a senior cardiologist at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital has alleged that he was harassed and beaten up by the police while he was en route to the hospital on May 23. The police have launched an inquiry while maintaining that the doctor had manhandled the policeman on duty.(KINS)
