Singh will be allowed back in the parliament on Thursday.
Canada’s Indian origin Sikh MP, Jagmeet Singh was ordered to leave the Parliament for the “remainder of the sitting day” after he refused to apologise after calling a lawmaker “racist” for denying approval for a motion calling out systemic racism in the police force, according to a media report.
Bloc Quebecois House Leader Alain Therrien shouted a “no” when the members of the House had agreed to pass the motion that called for accountability measures in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), including a full review of the use of force by members and the training officers CTV news reported.
Following this the New Democratic Party leader, Singh accused Alain of being racist. When challenged on his comments by the speaker of the House, he stood up and repeated “It is true. I called him a racist.”
Singh was asked to apologise and when he refused the Speaker Rota ordered him to leave the parliament for the remainder of the day.
He then posted a video on twitter narrating the incident and how he had felt about it.
I’ll be honest, I got angry,” he said in the video. “But I’m sad now. Because why can’t we act? Why can’t we do something to save people’s lives? We can do something, and why would someone say no to that?”
