Srinagar, Sep 03 : Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) has officially extended its support to Aijaz Ahmad Mir, an independent candidate in the Zainapora constituency of Shopian in southern part of Kashmir for the upcoming assembly elections.
Shameem Ahmad Athoker, the State Election Incharge of JEI, confirmed the decision to Kashmir Despatch, stating, “We are extending our support to Aijaz Ahmad Mir, the independent candidate in Zainapora, Shopian.”
This endorsement marks a notable shift for JEI, which has generally avoided openly supporting candidates in recent elections. Aijaz Ahmad Mir, a former legislator, is the independent candidate in the Zainapora constituency.
