Srinagar, June 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has directed all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) and Government Dental Colleges (GDCs) across the Union Territory to ensure strict implementation of the rotational headship policy in their institutions.
In a communication issued by the Additional Secretary to the Government, Dr. Ata-ul-Munim Tak,a copy of which is in the possession of news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the department referred to Government Order No. 527-JK(HME) of 2023 dated June 22, 2023, which introduced rotational headship in government-run medical and dental colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. The policy envisages a rotational tenure system for Heads of Departments (HoDs) to provide equitable leadership opportunities among eligible faculty members.
The Principals of all GMCs and GDCs have been asked to review the existing headship positions in all departments and disciplines and take necessary action to ensure that rotational headship is implemented wherever due, strictly in accordance with the provisions of the government order.
