Srinagar, Oct 18 : The CID Wing of J&K Police organized a one-day outreach program in Srinagar focused on combating the misuse of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) for terrorist financing.
The program as per News Agency Kashmir Scroll was jointly held with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GOI), and aimed to raise awareness among NPO office-bearers in the Kashmir valley regarding the potential misuse of their organizations for terrorist financing by various terrorist groups operating in J&K or elsewhere.
As per News Agency Kashmir Scroll around 50 representatives from different NPOs in Kashmir actively participated in the program, which featured the presence of Shri Omprakash Singh, IRS, JDD MHA New Delhi, and Shri Farooq Qaiser, JKPS, SSP (FIU) CID, Hqrs J&K. Experts from MHA, New Delhi, engaged with the participants, covering a wide range of topics including provisions outlined by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) concerning NPOs, income tax regulations related to charitable organizations, and the misuse of NPOs for terrorist financing.
The speakers also provided power point presentations featuring case studies to enhance the participants’ understanding of the subject matter. The attendees highly appreciated the entire exercise and actively interacted with the speakers, raising doubts and queries that were duly addressed.
Pertinently, these programs, of an ongoing initiative in the Union Territory (UT), were conducted jointly by the J&K Police and MHA for the first time.
Nitish Kumar, IPS, IGP CID J&K, commended the contribution of NGOs in various social and developmental spheres in Kashmir. However, he emphasized the importance of being cautious and vigilant to prevent unscrupulous individuals from exploiting their platforms for illegal activities such as terrorist financing and human trafficking.
Furthermore, Shri R R Swain, IPS, Special DG CID J&K, announced that a similar program targeting NPOs in Jammu will take place at DPL Jammu on October 20th, 2023.
The collaborative effort of the J&K Police and MHA reflects their commitment to tackling the misuse of NPOs for nefarious activities. (KS)
