Urges legislators to oppose reservation for ensuring justice

SRINAGAR, Nov 3: Jammu Kashmir General Category Welfare Forum held a core group meeting at Sheri Kashmir Park in Srinagar today on 03.11.2024 to discuss key issues related to the reservation system in Jammu and Kashmir . The forum aims to address the concerns of the general category community by making all possible measures so as to revisit the menace of reservation . The current reservation policy is unfair and undermines merit-based hiring practices.Meanwhile, the leadership appreciated and thanked honourable parliamentarian Syed Agha Ruhullah and honourable member assembly Waheed Ul Rehman Para for taking up this serious issue and urged other law makers to come forward for saving the future our talented youth who are being time and again victimized due to the menace of reservation.
Key Issues Discussed:
- Reservation Policy: The forum discussed the existing reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, which provides quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Socially and Educationally Backward Classes.
- Meritocracy vs. Reservation: The members debated the balance between merit-based hiring and reservation, with some arguing that the current policy compromises merit.
- Social and Economic Disparities: The forum acknowledged the historical social and economic disparities faced by marginalized communities but sought ways to address these issues without compromising merit.
Government Orders and Circulars:
The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued various orders and circulars related to the reservation policy, including GO 172-JK(SWD) of 2024, GO 169-JK(SWD) of 2024, and GO 162-JK(SWD) of 2024 ¹. Future Course of Action:

The Forum also appealed the legislators to oppose the current policy of reservation in order to do justice with the youth of Jammu and Kashmir who have nothing on their side except for the merit.
