Bandipora : A ‘Kishtie race’ was organised at the Wular lake in north Kashmir’s Bandipora on Monday.
According to Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, the race was held as a part of the Wular Sports Festival organised by Army’s 26 Assam Rifles in collaboration with district administration and tourism department.
This festival was aimed to promote water sports and tourism in the area.
In the Kishti race around 30 fishermen from different villages of Bandipora district participated.
Talking with Kashmir Despatch the winner of the Kishti race said, “This festival not only aimed to showcase our talent, but is the best way to promote water sports in our area, he also thanked Army for organising such event”,.
Large number of people besides army and civil administration were present on the occasion.
Earleir on the opening day of this festival Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed has said that the wular festival and other associated activities are being held to promote Wular as one of the prime tourist spots in the district.
He has said that the promotion of Wular as a tourist destination shall also provide more employment opportunities to the youth of the district.
