Kupwara student to receive APJ Kalam award

SRINAGAR, July 10: Muhammad Waseem Bhat, a 24-year-old literature student from Kupwara who is studying at University of Delhi has been selected to receive the prestigious “Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award” in the category of Youth leadership by the Khwab foundation of India.

According to a handout issued here, the award is given to only one selected nominee per state and Union Territory of India, who have contributed towards the nation building process through the excellence in development work. This year the jury board has selected him as the recipient of this prestigious award from the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. A total number of 36 Awardees will be felicitated across 28 States and 8 UTs of India.

The award ceremony will take place at International Youth Centre (Vishwa Yuwak Kendra) Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on 27th of July,2023. The said ceremony is a part of Kalam Youth leadership Conference which is slated at the same venue from 27th to 29th July,2023 in remembrance of the ‘Missile Man of India’ – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, marking his 8th death anniversary.

In past Bhat has received the prestigious National Youth Icon Award 2019 and was nominated to represent India as an international delegate by various global organizations like International Youth Council, Global Peace Chain, International Youth Society, Model United Nations and other such International organizations for various youth summits and leadership Conferences.

He has written extensively about various socio-economic issues that India is facing today while having the core focus on India’s evolving foreign policy.

In addition to that Bhat has a number of National and State level achievements across various genres at his disposal. He has also won the National Essay Competition organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle, New Delhi. The certificate of which was presented to me by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Besides he has also worked at various leadership positions in and outside the college. He has served as Peace Ambassador of India in Global Peace Chain from 2019 to 2021. At the Net Impact Delhi University he worked as an campus ambassador for the “Project Drawdown “.

The Kalam Youth Leadership Award is a prestigious recognition that celebrates the outstanding achievements, leadership qualities, and social contributions of potential young individuals. It pays homage to the visionary Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and encourages young leaders to dream big, work diligently, and make a positive impact on the world.
