BARAMULLA, May 02: National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister of the erstwhile J&K state, Omar Abdullah, expressed his concern that the BJP may not postpone the dates of Baramulla polls after witnessing the massive rally.

Speaking to a large gathering of workers at Showkat Ali Stadium, Omar Abdullah stated that it is up to the people to decide on May 20th whether they want to send their own representative to Delhi or receive one from New Delhi.

He further mentioned his fear that the BJP-led government may also postpone the Baramulla polls after witnessing the huge rally.

Omar Abdullah, however, challenged the BJP-led government, stating that it no longer matters to them whether the election dates are changed or not, as the National Conference will emerge as the winner from the Baramulla seat.

He emphasized that it is the people who have the power to decide whether to send their own representatives to Delhi or rely on New Delhi to provide them.

During the occasion, Omar quoted a famous saying, “Main Akela Hi Chala Tha Janebe Manzil Magar log sath aate Gaye aur Karwan Banta gaya” (I started alone on my journey, but people kept joining me and turned it into a caravan).

He shared that when he initially left home, he was accompanied by his own vehicle, his son’s vehicle, and two vehicles of his colleagues. However, as he reached Narbal, people started joining and the number kept growing until Baramulla, where it turned into a massive gathering resembling a sea of people.

Omar Abdullah mentioned that the previous assembly elections were held in 2014. In the past 10 years, assembly elections have not been conducted in Jammu and Kashmir. The upcoming election holds significance as it is the first major election after August 5, 2019.

He expressed hope that they will achieve success in the five seats of Jammu and Kashmir and in the seat of Ladakh.

Omar clarified that his fight is not against any individual, but against the power of Delhi and the RSS in Nagpur. He stated that he had previously fought elections with the generals of Pakistan and, with the support of his people, he is hopeful of winning this election as well.

He said that they are not afraid and cannot turn back because they are fighting for their rights, justice, and the bright future of their children.

Omar Abdullah described the massive rally as a trailer and he revealed that the full picture is yet to come. He promised that on May 20th, when the National Conference will emerge as the winner, they will release the complete movie. He stated that despite the tactics employed by the central government, they will emerge victorious.

He also praised the crowd, expressing that even after being in politics for 25 years, seeing such a sea of people has left him sleepless for the first time. Omar addressed the crowd, expressing his readiness to give his blood for the cause that his people believe in.

However, he urged the people to continue with the same momentum until May 20th in order to secure victory.

Earlier after filing the nomination papers Omar while talking to the media at the Office of Returning Officer Baramulla, alleged that ECI has given free hand to BJP who spreads hate and using religion to influence voters. “ECI has given free hand to BJP while as others are being told to strictly adhere to Model Code of Conduct (MCC). BJP star campaigners are repeatedly using religion in their speeches and are spreading hate to charge communal atmosphere across the country,” Omar said.

He said NC is yet against the decisions taken on August 05, 2019 and it is why today the party is seeking votes from people on the matter. “National Conference opposes the decision taken on August 5th, we’re asking for votes to fight against it. Many of our friends stand with us on this, and we’re seeing a good number of people joining our cause,” he said.

He added it is after a gap of twenty-years when I am filing nominations papers to take part in election, even in Jammu and Kashmir I’m filing nomination papers after a decade, which itself states how democracy flourishes in J&K.

“NC and INDIA bloc is fighting LS elections jointly in Jammu and Kashmir. We are hopeful our togetherness will bag all five seats in J&K, and one of Ladakh,” Omar stated.
