Locals ask admin to remove encroachments from footpaths

Baramulla, Jan 13 : Lack of parking bays in Baramulla town is triggering roadside parking and traffic jams, residents said.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), locals said that Baramulla despite being a district headquarter lacks a designated parking place.

“The administration had earlier designated roadside parking facilities for shopkeepers and people but the street vendors have encroached upon the sites without any action from the administration,” they added.

Demanding action against encroachments, many said that shopkeepers too have occupied footpaths leaving no space for pedestrians to walk.

A top official in the administration told KNO that they had identified land at various spots to establish a parking place but no department is ready to hand over the land.

Despite the matter being taken up with the Urban Development Department several times, there has been no breakthrough in it, the official added.

President municipal council Baramulla Touseef Raina did not respond to repeated calls—(KNO)
