SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Amid closure of educational institutions across Kashmir Valley in wake of Covid-19 pandemic, Directorate of School Education (DSEK) has took up an initiative to reach to students through mobile app “Zoom” so that lectures will be imparted to them through video conferencing.

Director School Education Mohammad Younis Malik said in wake of Covid-19 pandemic situation followed by strict lockdown, all educational institutions across Kashmir Valley have suspended operations till further orders.

He said DSEK has taken several steps including conduct of online classes in current situation to minimize the losses suffered by students due to prevailing uncertainty since August 2019.

“We have used different applications like WhatsApp, YouTube, Zoom and others digital platforms which are running in low speed internet. Students will get in touch with us through video conferencing and get benefited from online classes while sitting in their homes,” Director School Education said.

He also said DSEK is using every medium to reach out to students especially living in far off places so that their career will go unaffected. He further said that special classes are already being run on Door Darshan which is availed by thousands of students across  Kashmir.

When asked about students in far flung areas don’t have smart phones, Director School Education said these students will be provided special assignments compiled by DSEK and no student will be left out. He said with these efforts, more than six lac students will get benefited.

Meanwhile several parents lampooned the efforts like imparting education through mobile app. They said it seems DSEK is unaware about high speed mobile internet which is snapped in Kashmir since August 2019.

“When there is no 4G internet service available how DSEK can impart education through video conferencing? It is out of imagination,” some of the parents said.

They appealed DSEK to come up with some concrete measure which is possible in current situation so that career of students will be saved. (KNS)
