Budgam, Sep 10: Residents of Makhama village in central Kashmir’s Budgam District staged a protest against the R&B department for its failure to construct a bridge which was earlier declared unsafe by the administration on June 22 this year.
A major bridge over the Nala Sukhnag at Makhama Magam in Budgam district became impassable due to floods on June 22 this year. So far this bridge has not been repaired.
People are facing a lot of difficulties while reaching their respective destinations via this route. The bridge as per locals was not meant for heavy motor vehicles. The bridge connects several villages like Rathsun, Cheewdara, Makhuma, Ohangam which were completely disconnected from the district headquarters.
Meanwhile, locals have appealed to authorities to construct a new bridge for the convenience of the general public. While talking to Kashmir Despatch, Executive Engineer Roads and Building Department Budgam Mohammad Ashraf Bhat said: “We have already forwarded the Detailed Project Report for an amount of 2.36 crore submitted to the administrative department for its approval which is awaited.”
