BARAMULLA, Jul 7: A man-eater leopard which killed three minor children was killed by two hunters deployed by the forest department in Uri area of Baramulla while the searches for another man-eater leopard in Handwara area are underway.

An official confirmed that hunters who were searching for the animal from last month were finally able to shoot down the leopard at Bernate village of Uri.

The leopard, as per official, which had attacked and killed three minor children in Uri area last month was gunned down late last night. At least 50 teams of forest officials including police were pressed into service to track the leopard, the official said.

Late last evening, a 4-year-old boy was mauled to death by a man-eater leopard in Rajpora village of Rajwar. The victim, identified as Rutba Manzoor daughter of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat was playing outside her home when a man-eater wild animal attacked her and dragged her for about half-a-kilometre towards the forest following which his body was found.

Amid rising demands of killing such beasts who were attacking people in residential areas, the forest department and police have made multiple teams for the operation to nab the beast.
