SRINAGAR : General officer commanding (GoC) of Srinagar based 15 Corps, D P Pandey on Friday said that recruitment graph of militancy is going down in the Kashmir Valley.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Kupwara, Pandey said that the recruitment graph and militancy is going down in the Valley.  “Last year it was down as well and this year it has further come down as society and the people have understood that militancy has only brought miseries to them,” he said.

He added that he as people would keep an eye on their children and stop them from the path of militancy and that he believes Kashmir will witness good times like it has witnessed in the past. He also said that he would ask the people of Kashmir to take a cue from the people of Kupwara as it has seen the worst phase of militancy.

“But the people here have understood that militancy has only brought misery to them and they were being used by militants. Dardpora is one such example as it has witnessed a lot of miseries due to militancy,” he said. He also asked the youth who have picked up arms to return to their homes and join the mainstream to become good citizens and work for the welfare of the country.
