Muzammil Hussain of B. Com 5thSemester won the Islamia College Annual Road Race 2019, by covering the entire distance of the race in 14:36.02 minutes, to finish first in the Annual College Road Race event for the year 2019, Organised by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce Srinagar, here today on 23rd of April 2019.
The race was flagged off jointly by the College Convener and Member Sports Committee Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shamim and Prof. Nasreen Chasti, at 6:00 a.m. sharp from Nishat Crossing. The participant athletes ran via Nishat,Teilbal Fore Shore Road and finished at Duck Park , Srinagar, covering a distance of 05.25 kilometers.
One Hundred and Twenty one students of the college took part in the event with great enthusiasm. The students displayed lot of excitement and zeal, as the college staff especially on duty for the purpose, encouraged them enroute.
Suhail Nisar of B.Com 5thSem & Ali Mohammad Bhat of B. Com 2ndSem. claimed the second and third place with timings of 15:22:09 mns, and 16:38:67 mns respectively. Aijaz Hussain of B. Com 2ndSem. claimed 4th place with the timings of 17:05:65 mns and Touseef Ahmad of BBA 2ndSem. claimed the 5th place with the timings of 17:14:61 mns. respectively.
After the culmination of the race a simple but impressive prize distribution ceremony was held at Duck Park, Garden, at the beautiful banks of the world famous Dal Lake. The prizes were given away to the first five position holders by Prof. Shamim Ahmed, Prof. Nasreen Qureshi Prof. Mohammad Hanif members Sports Committee of the College. In their speechs on the occasion, they also encouraged students to take part in the sports activities in and outside the college.
They insisted the participants to involve themselves whole heartedly in the sports events which are being organized in the College particularly the Inter-Group and Inter-College sports tournaments and adventure activities during the year. After the award cermony Prof M Hanif presented the vote of thanks. The Annual College Cycle Race for Islamia College students is scheduled to be held on 30th of April 2019.
All the members of college sports committee and the staff of the Department of Physical Education of the College were actively involved on the occasion to organize the event successfully.
