Nagrota, Aug 01: As part of the ongoing Annual Training Camp (ATC) being conducted by 5 Jammu & Kashmir NCC Battalion, Poonch, at NTA, Nagrota, from 27 July to 5 August 2026, an informative lecture on “Medical Standards for Entry into the Indian Defence Forces” was organised for NCC cadets to enhance their awareness of the medical eligibility criteria for a career in the Defence Services.
The lecture was delivered by Lt Col (Dr.) Adarsh Sharma, a decorated Indian Army veteran, doctor, educationist, defence analyst, and motivational speaker. Drawing upon his rich experience in military service , Lt Col (Dr.) Sharma comprehensively explained the medical standards prescribed for recruitment into the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. He highlighted the common medical conditions that result in rejection during Service Selection and Medical Boards and advised cadets on maintaining physical fitness, healthy lifestyle habits, and preventive healthcare measures to meet the stringent medical requirements of the Defence Forces.
The interactive session proved highly beneficial for the cadets, providing them with valuable insights into the medical assessment process and helping them understand the importance of preparing well in advance to achieve their dream of joining the Defence Forces. Cadets actively participated in the discussion and had their queries regarding medical fitness standards addressed by the speaker.
Nearly 500 NCC cadets, including boys and girls from various schools and colleges of Districts Poonch and Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir, attended the lecture. The enthusiastic response reflected the growing interest among the youth in pursuing careers in the Defence Services.
The camp is being conducted under the guidance of Commanding Officer Col Ajay Dhill and Lt Col Sachin Phogat Administrative Officer. The ten-day camp comprises a wide range of activities, including military training, sports competitions, leadership and personality development, adventure activities, and educational awareness programmes, aimed at developing disciplined, confident, and responsible citizens.
The lecture on medical standards assumes particular significance for NCC cadets and other defence aspirants, as early awareness of the prescribed medical standards enables them to identify and address preventable health issues in time, thereby improving their chances of successfully qualifying the medical examination during the recruitment process.
