Bandipora, June 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Omar Abdullah-led government, alleging that it has failed to address public grievances and remains occupied with “photo opportunities and marathons” instead of fulfilling promises made to the people.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workers’ training programme in Bandipora, Khatana claimed that even elected representatives of the ruling National Conference (NC) are dissatisfied with the party’s functioning and leadership.
He alleged that developmental funds were being concentrated in select constituencies, including Ganderbal, represented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and in the constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, while other areas were being neglected.
“The NC’s own MLAs are disappointed with the way the government is functioning. The leadership has failed to represent the aspirations of the people and is more focused on publicity than governance,” Khatana alleged.
The BJP leader further accused the National Conference and Congress of pursuing family-centric politics and ignoring the concerns of ordinary citizens.
On the issue of statehood, Khatana said the NC was misleading the public by claiming it could secure the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood through protests and political campaigns.
“Statehood cannot be restored unless the Centre decides to do so. The NC is trying to create a false narrative despite knowing that the matter rests with the Union Government,” he said.
He also alleged that the ruling alliance had failed to effectively represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir and had not delivered on the promises made during the Assembly elections.
