New land law: PDP’s protest march foiled in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 29 : Authorities on Thursday foiled the protest march of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the new land law and detained several leaders including the former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Khurshid Aalam in Srinagar.

As per Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, PDP leaders had organized a protest rally on Thursday from the party headquarters in Srinagar to the Press Enclave.

However, soon after the leaders reached the party headquarters, they were detained by the police already deployed there.

Witnesses said that several party leaders including Khurshid Aalam were detained by the police outside the party headquarters here. Others who were detained include Waheed Parra, Suhail Bukhari, Rouf Bhat, Mohit Bhan and others.

Pertinently, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday staged strong protests in Jammu, seeking immediate repeal of the new land laws which have paved the way for people from outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land in the erstwhile state.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti Thursday said that entire Jammu and Kashmir has been converted into a jail neither civil society nor politicians can talk here.

Mehbooba Mufti talking to media at her Gupkar residence said, People in Bihar demand jobs and food from BJP and this party tells them to go to Kashmir and purchase land there. BJP can’t think beyond elections. It is befooling people and using Kashmir in every election.”

She said that the Government of India resorting to open loot of J&K’s resources by making fresh announcements every that include repealing of land laws, allowing outsiders to buy land in UT, introducing domicile law and axing the government employees by reducing the service period to 22 years only.

The former Chief Minister said that BJP is silent over China and using muscle power on the people of Kashmir. “Go and get the land occupied by China that has killed so many soldiers.

She said, PDP workers were peacefully protesting against land law passed by BJP govt to loot J&K land. Our workers were arrested and I wasn’t allowed to meet them.

Asked about her next step, she said: “Sarfaroshi ki tamana ab hamaray dil mei hai, dekhna hai zoor kitna bazuway kaatil mei hai.”
