Bandipora, Feb 06 : The non-availability of public transport in evening hours here has caused immense hardships to the people in several villages of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
According to wire service—the people from several villages including Gundpora, Rampora, Khanpora, CA Khan, Bapora and Mulkhama are facing immense problems due to the lack of public transport service in the evening hours for last four months in the area.
The stranded commuters at Gundpora expressed displeasure over non-availability of vehicles in the area in evening hours, saying that this has added to the miseries of people.
Reyaz Ahmad a student said that many commuters in absence of public transport are forced to hire auto-rickshaws, who charge exorbitant rates in evening hours. “Government has failed to ensure availability of public transport during evening hours, thus leaving the residents here to lurch at large,” he said.
He further stated that as majority of the people in this remote area are poor and cannot afford their own vehicles, so they have to rely on public transport.
“Despite repeated requests the authorities have turned blind eye towards the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, the commuters appealed the higher authorities to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief. (KNO)
