Baramulla : To ensure proper implementation of the J&K Shops & Establishment Act, the Assistant Labor Commissioner of Baramulla district has constituted four teams to oversee the observance of One Close Day across the district.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that the decision was taken to guarantee all establishments, including salespersons, are provided with one mandatory day off per week, as per the provisions of the Act.
He said the enforcement drive commenced on Sunday and will continue in the coming Sundays as well.
The officer said that the field staff of the Labor Department has been instructed to take legal action against any violators and prosecute them before the Court of law.
Meanwhile, the initiative has received widespread appreciation from the local civil society, Traders Federation Sopore, Beopar Mandal Baramulla, and other industry associations, who have welcomed the Labor Department’s efforts to ensure the rights of workers are protected.
Talking to Kashmir Despatch President trade body Sopore Haji Ashraf Ahmad Ganai said this is a much-needed step to safeguard the interests of the sales workforce not only in our Sopore town but in entire district. He said we are grateful to the Labor Department for taking this proactive approach.
Jana a sales in one of the showroom in Sopore told Kashmir Despatch that the One Close Day implementation is seen as a positive move towards improving the working conditions and quality of life for employees like me in the retail and commercial sectors of Baramulla district. He said this should be implemented in other districts also.
