Inquiry Launched
Kreeri, August 25 : A doctor posted at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was reportedly subjected to inappropriate behavior by the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kreeri police station after attendants fled the hospital with a patient’s dead body.
This incident has prompted an inquiry ordered by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla. A copy of the order, available with Kashmir Despatch, states: “On 25 August 2024 at 0645 hrs, information was received by police station (PS) Kreeri that a male dead body had been brought to SDH Kreeri by locals/relatives of the deceased. It was not clear from the initial information whether the death was suspicious or attributable to natural causes. Parties from PS Kreeri acted promptly to obtain further details about the matter,” reads the inquiry order issued by the SSP Baramulla.
“During the preliminary enquiry, it was discovered that locals/relatives of the deceased had taken the dead body for last rites, and the medical team at SDH Kreeri was also unable to definitively inform police whether the death was suspicious or attributable to natural causes. Following this, a police party rushed to the concerned village, conducted a detailed inquiry, examined the body, and concluded that since the deceased had been under long-term care at Soura Institute, the death was most probably not suspicious.”
“It was later learned that during the aforementioned episode, the SHO PS Kreeri spoke in a disrespectful manner with Dr. Jehangir Ahmad, who is posted at SDH Kreeri, causing distress and anguish to Dr. Jehangir. The matter was reported to the undersigned by various medical professionals who demanded stern action regarding the matter.”
“Considering the above facts, I hereby order that Sh. Syed Yasir Qadri-JKPS, Additional SP Baramulla, shall conduct an inquiry to examine the incident in detail, ascertain facts, recommend disciplinary action for the use of disrespectful language, and suggest remedial measures to be undertaken. Additionally, the inquiry should propose measures to ensure that such an incident does not recur in the future. Findings and recommendations shall be provided to the undersigned within three days,” the order further added.
