J&K Youth Alliance organises one-day seminar ‘Youth Against Corruption’ at Kangan

0

Srinagar, Jun 23 : J&K Youth Alliance organises one-day Seminar at Kangan Town, the seminar was titled was “Youth against Corruption”. The Chief Guest of seminar was SDPO Kangan Sheikh Tahir Amin and SDM Kangan Masrat Hashim.

The initial proceedings of seminar were started moderator by JKYA Distt Ganderbal president, Sajad Farooq Rather.

While speaking Sajad said, education is a powerful tool to fight corruption; but corruption is within the education system too. Corrupt education systems can prevent young people from achieving their potential by depriving them of adequate learning conditions and educational opportunities. Moreover, a corrupt education sector serves as a breeding ground for corruption itself, by teaching the younger generation that corrupt behaviour is acceptable. Therefore, an education sector free of corruption is imperative to the promotion of a culture of ethics and anti-corruption among youth. In order to become efficient observers of corruption, youth activists need to acquire skills and learn about tools that can help them uncover and denounce different forms of corruption. Representatives of university students and school students are part of the Platform and hence the role of young people as “stakeholders” in the fight against corruption is recognised also on an institutional level. Engaging youth in the fight against corruption can also take the form of youth own-led initiatives and movements. Especially informal youth groups can find it easier to act at the local, grass-root level, outside of the rigid association structures, even if the latter can add significant catalysing value by providing platforms, resources, knowledge, visibility etc.

The seminar was attended by more than participants from different colleges and universities.

Chief Guest Tahir Amin while speaking said, the youth need to be engaged at the design stage of policies concerning them. The more the youth takes the lead, the more the policies have the chance to succeed. Every person has their own dignity and some fundamental rights. Corruption also affects the fundamental rights. We should be honest to ourselves. Until and unless we will not be honest, we can’t control corruption. If each of us is honest towards our profession, then corruption will automatically decrease. We need to pay attention towards professional accountability i.e., how much we are faithful and truthful towards our profession. SDPO said support from Police department to youth for eradicating this menace will be fully given.

Adnan Wani, Sana JKYA Spokesperson, Farhana women’s president spoke about the aims and objectives of J&K Youth Alliance, Jammu Kashmir Youth Alliance aims at making Jammu and Kashmir capable, competent, safe and prosperous State. Says mainstreaming of state’s political problems party’s lasting contribution

Srinagar, Jun 23 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar on Sunday termed the PDP as only consistent voice that seeks an end to the problems being faced by the people of the state.

Interacting with party workers and civil society members in north Kashmir’s Bandipora, Akhtar said that whether in power or out of power, the PDP has been consistent in seeking the resolution of Kashmir and that the party believes that the Constitution of the country has enough room to accommodate the aspirations of the people and protect their identity as guaranteed by the constitution itself. “We will continue to do that and also to bring out the state from the state of artificial siege that we have found ourselves in for the past seven decades,” Akhtar said.

The PDP leader added that the party will bounce back in a revitalised form on the state’s political scene and that it will continue to push for peace with dignity which is the focal point of its agenda. He said that the workers are committed to the agenda of the party and the vision provided by its founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba Mufti, Muzafar Hussain Beigh and his other colleagues who founded the party in the very trying circumstances.

He added that the lasting contribution of the PDP in the state is the mainstreaming of the political problems of Kashmir and that the party will continue to seek the implementation of its pro-peace agenda till durable peace is restored in the state.

He added that Bandipora has seen major development initiatives during the brief PDP rule after the 2014 polls and that post 2002, when PDP came to power for the first time, Bandipora remained on government’s priority in more ways than one.

Akhtar said that it was during that time that district status was accorded to Bandipora besides a separate District hospital and Degree College was established there. “Road infrastructure has been massively built in the district by the PDP government soon after it came to power in the year 2015 with developmental works worth 156 crores approved. It includes the main Srinagar Bandipora road which is being constructed as a decent link for the first time in history. Besides that major road infrastructure is being built in Nadihal, Arihal, Sumbal, Athwado, Sonarwani, Chandaji and Kootasathri. In addition to that wide network of inner link roads has been established in the district connecting even the far-flung hamlets with main towns,” Akhtar said.

The PDP leader also highlighted the health infrastructure prioritized by the PDP led dispensation in Bandipora with establishment of blood bank, dialysis centre and specialized diagnostic centre. (KNS)

PSAJK expresses concern on New Education Policy 2016

‘Attempt to politicise, saffronise and lower quality of education will be protested’

Srinagar, Jun 22 : Private Schools’ Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has expressed its concern on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2016 released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) recently in the public domain.

The Association said that the new policy is bereft of logic at various places and its implementation in toto will damage decades of progress achieved in education sector. The Association said that voluminous document needs extensive discussions as number of points in it are detrimental for students, teachers and society as a whole. “There is no sufficient addressing of the crucial issues such as gender, caste and the environment in the draft. Human rights and constitutional rights issues are grossly excluded and Sanskrit and Yoga are projected beyond all reasonable proportions right from school education. As per the draft, Hindu religious dogmas and Varnasramadharma should be injected into young minds in the guise of moral education in schools,” said Var while quoting the experts. “The policy stresses skill on 80 percent students and quality education for chosen few. It seems the main aim is to make 80 percent students as bonded employees of capitalist world while as 20 percent will have upper edge on them. The NEP destroys the concept of equality and it is anti-poor.”

The Association said that even scientifically the policy has major flaws. “The policy states that 4000 year old Vedic Education is the earliest form of education even though latest scientific evidence shows that Indus Valley Civilization and its art, craft and education was way earlier than it in 6000 BC,” said Var. “Furthermore it advocates Vedic Gurukula system of education which is teacher centric with aim of infusing rigorous discipline among students. This system mars creativity of children and it is also against the modern and democratic decentred approaches to pedagogy and contemporary educational practice,” said Var.

The Association said that the NEP has an ambiguous “Nationalist and Developmental” agenda which pushes some of the key concerns of equity and justice to the periphery in the educational agenda. Words like secularism, socialism, equality, rationalism, democracy, inclusion etc. are rendered insignificant or obsolete by this neo-liberal Nationalist developmental goals, working in tandem with the cultural Nationalism thrust on heritage, tradition and religious amity. “The NEP 2016 draft calls upon “the youth to become global citizens, with their roots deeply embedded in Indian culture and traditions”. One may ask what is Indian culture in the first place? There are dozens of culture in India unique to every state. It seems to destroy the plurality of culture,” said Var. “Besides the NEP maintains silence on issues like Gender, Caste, Sexuality and Ecology.”

The Association has called upon educationists, academicians, schools heads and experts to study the policy document and come out with their opinions. It also advocated organising a conference to extensively discuss the NEP, before it is too late. (KNS)
