NC expresses dismay over transfer of 60 kanals of land to CRPF

Srinagar, May 18, : Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday expressed dismay over the transfer of 60 kanals of land to CRPF in the suburban area of Srinagar city, saying that the buildup will affect the civilian activities in those areas.

Party’s general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar while censuring the incumbent governor administration for transferring sixty Kanals of land in the suburbans Srinagar said, “The urban life of Srinagar is already under duress. Services that are hallmark of the urban areas across the globe are yet to be made available to the people of Srinagar,” adding, “The city is already facing land crunch for the development of various facilities to manage a gigantic load of solid waste. The move of transferring land to CRPF will further dent development activities including that of waste management projects in the city. Having a massive chunk of land under security forces will inadvertently put pressure on the ecology of wetlands and lakes as people will eventually take over eco-fragile zones of Srinagar.”

“The move is imprudent and is bound to affect the long term strategy of the state government to provide for the mounting demands of the ever-growing population of the city. The move will dent the long term efforts of the state government to make use of the urban periphery of Srinagar for civilian purposes.”

Sagar while terming the step regressive said, “At a time when governments around the world are thinking of providing eco-friendly services of connectivity, housing, garbage waste management, besides maintaining the cultural landscape of the cities; our government is rather on a regressive mode. It is gobbling the already provided space for unproductive measures.”

He further added, “Nobody is belittling the importance of security, it is a critical aspect of our security but the step should have been taken after taking into consideration various agencies that upkeep and look after the infrastructure, transportation of the Srinagar city.”

Early today, police informed him of being booked under PSA and immediately shifted him to Islamabad Jail, a statement issued by JKLF reads.

Moreover, the PSA of another JKLF leader Zahoor Ahmad Butt who is incarcerated at the same jail from last many months has also been extended by three months by authorities yesterday.

Terming slapping of PSA on Noor Muhammad Kalwal and extension of same draconian law on Zahoor Ahmad Butt as ‘travesty of justice’, JKLF chief spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Dar said that it is shameful and unlawful too on the part of civil administration which is serving as subservient to the police and singing PSA orders without applying their mind and conscience.

He said that in holy month of Ramadhan and at the eve of Eid like festivals, inmates are freed from jails but in Kashmir, jails are being filled with more and more inmates and blood is being spilled ruthlessly by anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmiri rulers without any remorse or shame.

JKLF spokesman said that “from last few days Kashmiri youth are being massacred at will and many civilians too have fallen preys to blood thirsty occupational forces, which in fact is a glaring example of the anti-Muslim attitude of these rulers.”

Paying tributes to all those who were killed during last few days, JKLF spokesman said that this sacred blood and gallantry sacrifices will never go waste and that no stone will be left unturned for taking this sacred mission to its logical and desired goal.

Unabated killings even during month of Ramadan worrisome: PDP

0

Srinagar, May 18,: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday said it is worrisome to witness that there is no let up in killings and bloodshed in Kashmir even during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued here, PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said the unabated killings of civilians, militants and security forces in Kashmir has once again made peace elusive even during the ongoing sacred month of Ramadan.

He said the way in which precious human lives are lost in Kashmir, there are apprehensions that the government is in no mood to shun the muscular policy that so far has yielded no positive results.

Hanjura said that it has been the cardinal principle of the PDP that muscular and iron fist approach is bound to fail in Kashmir as such measures have in the past only wreaked havoc and in the future also wouldn’t bring any positive change on the ground.

He said keeping the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan in view, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti as the Chief Minister last year played a vital role in making GOI declare a unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir. This year also said Hanjura, the PDP President made a fervent appeal to both militants as well to the security grid to declare a truce and respect the ongoing holy month. “It is hoped that good sense will prevail and the vicious cycle of violence and bloodshed is stopped at an earliest so that the people of Kashmir yearning for peace could heave a sigh of relief,” said Hanjura.
