Pakistan says thwarted attempts by Indian submarine to enter its waters

0

Srinagar: The Pakistan Navy detected an Indian submarine trying to enter Pakistani waters and successfully thwarted the attempt, DawnNewsTV reported on Tuesday quoting the Navy’s spokesperson.

“The Pakistan Navy used its specialised skills to ward off the submarine, successfully keeping it from entering Pakistani waters,” a statement from the spokesperson said.

This is the second time the Pakistan Navy has detected the Indian submarine trying to enter Pakistani waters since 2016, the report said.

According to the statement, the fact that an Indian submarine laden with modern technology was detected by the Pakistan Navy is a loss for the Indian navy.

Keeping the government’s initiative of peace in mind, the Indian submarine was not targetted by the Pakistan Navy, said the spokesperson.

Learning from this incident, India should also work towards peace, the statement added.

“This great feat is a testament of the Pakistan Navy’s superior skills. The Navy will keep defending Pakistan’s naval border. The force has the capability to respond to any aggression.”

Not aware of any request from the US on F 16: Pakistan envoy to US

0

Washington: Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Asad Majeed Khan has said he is not aware of any request made by the US about the use of F-16 fighter jets by his country in the recent aerial confrontation with India.

The Indian Air Force on Thursday displayed parts of an AMRAAM beyond visual range air-to-air missile as evidence to “conclusively” prove that Pakistan deployed US-manufactured F-16 fighter jets during an aerial raid targeting Indian military installations in Kashmir after India’s anti-terror operation in Balakot.

Pakistan on Wednesday categorically said that no F-16 fighter jets were used and denied that one of its planes had been downed by the Indian Air Force.

The US State Department has said that America is seeking more information from Pakistan on the potential misuse of American-made F-16 fighter jets by it against India in violation of the end-user agreement.

“On F-16, I don’t know, India has been alleging so many other things. We don’t get into every single one of them. I am not aware of request from the US side about the F 16,” Khan told a Washington audience at the US Institute of Peace, a Congress-funded think-tank, on Monday.

Asked about the media reports saying that US is seeking more information on the alleged misuse of F-16 against India in a potential violation of the end-user agreement, he said: “I think the question is whether the Pakistan is prevented by (end-user-agreement)”.

“I have not seen those end user agreements. I am not a position to comment on that,” the top Pakistani diplomat said.

The US, which is the largest seller of high-tech defence equipment globally and has a strong end-user monitoring agreement, as a matter of practice takes all allegations of misuse of defence articles very seriously.

AMRAAM missiles allow a fighter pilot to target an enemy aircraft that is beyond visual range, in day or night, and in all-weather conditions. They have an autonomous guidance capability, which allows the pilot to manoeuvre immediately after the missile’s launch.

Srinagar,  March 5 : Afzal Guru’s son has accused a national daily of intentionally misquoting him on wanting to become a “proud Indian citizen.”

“They have quoted as me saying that I will be a proud Indian citizen when I get my passport. All I said was that I was happy to have an Aadhar card and a passport will help me pursue higher education abroad,” Guru’s son Ghalib told GNS, referring to a Times of India (ToI) report that quoted him as saying that he “will be a proud Indian citizen when I get my passport.”

A video  accompanying the ToI story shows a reporter asking Ghalib if he was “proud of the fact that you own a Government of India card?”

Ghalib replies, “At least I have one card. Now I want the passport in order to go to foreign countries to pursue my education.” He also says he has a scholarship offer from Turkey.

The reporter then asks him again if he was “happy” to have an Aadhar card, to which Ghalib replies,” Yes, I am happy.”

Guru’s wife Tabassum said one of the reasons she doesn’t allow Indian media to speak to her son is because “they often misquote us.”

“My father-in-law had let them in as one of the reporters said she was a Kashmiri Pandit. It’s sad they still misquoted Ghalib for their story,” she said. (GNS)

The Pakistani drone was shot down by a Sukhoi-30 aircraft at around 11.30am, minutes after a ground-based radar station detected the flying machine, they said.
