‘People have right to know casualties in IAF air strikes’

0

Mumbai, Mar 5 (PTI) The Shiv Sena Tuesday said India’s citizens have the right to know about the casualties in the air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) camp in Pakistan and that revealing such information would not lower the morale of armed forces.

Taking a dig at senior ally BJP, the Sena, in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said discussions over the air strikes will linger on till the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and “burning issues” raised by the Opposition before the February 14 Pulwama attack have now been side-stepped.

“Citizens of the country have the right to know what and how much harm has been caused to the enemy by the defence forces. We do not think the morale of our forces is being lowered by asking for it,” it said.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) jets on February 26 pounded JeM’s biggest training camp in Pakistan in retaliation to the terror outfit’s attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

While the government has so far not given any official figure of the casualties in the air strikes, some opposition parties have been asking for a proof of it.

Referring to it, the Sena said, “Where did the 300-kg RDX used in Pulwama attack come from? How many terrorists were killed in our strikes on terror camps? Discussions over these will happen till the last days of polls because before the Pulwama attack, inflation, unemployment and Rafale jet deal were the burning issues for the Opposition.”

The Modi government’s “bomb” has fallen over these issues, it said in sarcastic remarks.

Issues like the construction of Ram temple, Article 370 and those raised by farmers have “turned to ashes”, said the Uddhav Thackeray-led party, which is an ally of the BJP at the Centre and in Maharashtra.

It said questions over the number of terrorists killed in the February 26 air strikes by IAF were not only being asked by the Opposition but by media of countries like the UK and the US as well.

Doctors give new lease of life to pregnant lady and her baby at Aakash Healthcare Delhi

New Delhi, March 5: Sunanda Sharma (Name Changed), 30, came to a city Hospital with multiple challenges for the team of doctors. Advanced stage pregnancy and life threatening heart condition posed a serious threat to mother and unborn child. Sunanda was admitted at Aakash Healthcare at a time when both the patient and her baby in the womb were struggling for survival and the doctors had the most challenging task for them. Two lives were on peril and any delay could have  been fatal. A multidisciplinary team of doctors swung into action and saved both lives. First the experts saved life of the baby and went on to perform a risky second heart valve replacement surgery to save the mother’s life.

Seven years ago, Sunanda had undergone Heart Valve Replacement (Mitral Heart Replacement) surgery and put on strict routine of lifelong blood thinners to prevent clotting on her metallic heart valve. Last year, she conceived and her delivery was scheduled on early January 2019. Since early January she stopped taking her blood thinners in anticipation of her baby, and in overwhelming excitement just forgot her underlying heart condition.Suddenly she developed breathlessness and difficulty in breathing. In the initial tests of her heart at a local hospital in Rewari, it showed that her metallic heart valve had developed acute clots and had stopped functioning. This is a life threatening condition which has 50% survival chances even in the best of hospitals worldwide. Immediately, she was transferred to Aakash Healthcare in Delhi. By the time she reached the Emergency room, her oxygen level went very low, and she was immediately put on ventilation to save her life as well as of the baby in her womb. Her quick medical history revealed her previous Heart Valve Replacement surgery and the doctors also discovered the fact that she stopped taking her prescribed blood thinners.

Her condition was diagnosed as Stuck Metallic Valve of the heart with water in the lungs(Pulmonary Edema). Her body oxygen levels were low even with support of the ventilator. First of all, two teams- led by Cardiac Anaesthetist Dr Gaurav and Gynaecologist by Dr Sumana Banerjee and Dr Richa Gupta- opted for emergency caesarean section and the baby was successfully delivered.

Another team of neonatologists led by Dr Gaurav Jain and Dr Meena awaited the birth of the baby with all possible logistics and supporting staff, expert in new born resuscitation.

According to Dr Gaurav Jain, “Though it was a successful delivery but everyone was shocked to see the baby not crying and by this time, the patient’s heart stopped working. In the next few minutes, the entire team made prudent efforts to bring back life into the newly born but to no avail. The next couple of days were extremely critical at state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit of Aakash Healthcare, before the baby finally showed any sign of life.”

Meanwhile, over 5-6 hours of the delivery, condition of the mother deteriorated with severe lack of oxygen in the body and additional complications. She had little chance of survival, according to specialists.

A highly experienced cardiac team comprising of Dr Amrish Kumar examined Sunanda who was in an extremely serious condition and they zeroed down on a second Heart Mitral Valve Replacement surgery to correct her stuck heart valve.

“A redo of the Heart mitral Valve Replacement surgery is an extremely risky surgical adventure and at this stage it carries over 80 percent on table mortality risk. The same was explained to the family,” said Dr Abhay Kumar.

The team performed a second Heart Mitral Replacement Surgery on the patient battling consecutive cardiac arrests thrice in the operation room. It was an 8 hour long surgery in the operation theatre before the patient was completely stabilized and brought back to the intensive care unit.

Sunanda case manifests a classic example of excellent multi-disciplinary team efforts of the highly efficient and experienced doctors at Aakash Healthcare. The entire team of medical, para medical and support staff extended their unending support to make the procedure successful.

Governor’s remarks on ReT Teachers ‘unfortunate, unacceptable’: EJCC

0

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, Mar 5: Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) has strongly condemned the remarks made by Governor Satya Pal Malik claiming that successive governments in the state had recruited ‘’radicalized youth as ReTs”.

A section of press had earlier quoted the Governor saying, that ‘’despite taking the salary from state government they are neither committed to the state government nor constitution of India‘’.

While calling it an ‘extremely unfortunate, shameful and irresponsible statement,’ senior trade union leader and spokesman EJCC Bashir Ahmad Ganaie told Kashmir Despatch that the Governor’s statement would subject the teachers to various risks.

“We condemn such shameful statements. It is very unfortunate. Those appointed under SSA or ReT schemes have gone through many layers of verification carried out by different police agencies.” Ganaie said, in a statement issued here.

He further said, “Education has suffered a lot during last three decades due to the non conducive atmosphere in the state. These ReT Teachers put their lives to risk and worked very hard to boost the education sector in the state. They have given the cream of their youth to serve the education department against the meager honorarium of Rs 1500 per month. The schools which were locked for years had been unlocked by these innocent and deprived teachers. We need to encourage and give them honour and respect so that the desired results are achieved. Unfortunately such statements will only discourage the teachers in the department.”

He urged upon the government not to degrade the status of the nation builders, but to give them a status, honour and respect which they actually deserve.
