Srinagar

At least 40 traders from Kashmir on Saturday closed their eight shops at Kashmiri Bazaar on Budh Marg and decided to leave for their native places after a mob allegedly attacked them with sticks and rods inside the market on Friday and threatened them to leave the city, Times of India reported.

According to a report published by Times of India said that at least four Kashmiri traders were injured in the state. One of the traders, Mazid Ahmed, was seriously injured. However, his condition is stated to be out of danger. Police forces were deployed at the market after the incident.

Bashir Ahmed Wani, one of the traders, told TOI over the phone on Saturday that they were from Anantnag district and it was for the first time they faced such a situation in the city in last 35 years.

“We are now planning to return as the shopkeepers are in fear after Friday’s attack. They don’t want to business here anymore,” he said.

“At least 30 motorcycle-borne youth barged into the market and started attacking us. The attackers abused us and threatened us to leave the city immediately,” the report quoted Wani as having said, adding the mob also ransacked their shops.

Wani said the Kashmiri traders generally stay in Patna till mid-March. “This time, we have decided to leave soon,” he added.

Kashmir based secretrait employees demand airlifting to Srinagar amid continuous attacks in Jammu

0

Srinagar, Feb 17 : Jammu Kashmir Civil Secretariat Employees Union on Sunday urged Governor administration to airlift them and their families to Srinagar as attacks on Kashmiris continue unabated despite curfew in Jammu.

Despite assurances, the administration has failed in ensuring safety of employees from Kashmir as miscreants continue to attack their quarters and vehicles despite so called curfew, JK Civil Secretariat Employees Association President Ghulam Rasool Mir told GNS. “In such a situation, the administration should immediately arrange airlifting of employees and their families to Srinagar,” he said, adding “We are unable to move outside and there is now scarcity of essential commodities which posses another threat to the survival especially small children.”

He said that in such a situation the employees and their families comprising children and elderly would be forced to move on their own towards Kashmir and if any untoward happen, the whole responsibility shall lie on the shoulders of government.

“I have been continuously receiving calls from fellow employees and they continuously demand airlifting given the surcharged atmosphere and continuous attacks despite assurances by the government,” he said.

He said that it is unfortunate that local police instead of discharging lawful duties sides with miscreants and administration should take strict action so that impression that is gathered right now that they enjoy patronage from higher ups is dispelled. (GNS)

Revenge in Kashmir will create more militants: Markandey Katju

0

KOCHI: Attempt by the armed forces to avenge the death of 40 jawans in the Pulwama attack will lead to more bloodshed and trigger a new cycle of militancy, warned retired Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju. “Lot of jingoism is going on in the name of Pulwama attack. I condemn the attack. But any attempt to avenge the massacre will end up in the slaughter of unarmed Kashmiri civilians. Kashmiri s are bitterly hostile to India. The suicide bomber has died and the perpetrators who helped him have vanished.

The army may go to a village, catch hold of a few unarmed civilians and kill them. This will only help to aggravate the situation. The relatives of dead will take to militancy and you will be converting non-militants into militants. If wisdom doesn’t dawn, you will have more body bags arriving,” he said `at a press conference in Kochi on Saturday.

Almost the entire Kashmir population has been alienated from India due to the stupidity of our political leaders for decades, he said.“As a Kashmiri I know the mood in the valley. The militants may be only a few hundred. But most of the Kashmiris sympathise with them. After conducting an attack, the militants melt away among the population and the people there give them shelter, food and intelligence information. Any attempt to avenge the death will lead to a Vietnam-like situation. The only solution is reunification of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh under a secular government,” Katju said.

‘Courts should not intervene in matters of faith’

Katju said courts should not intervene in matters of faith as it will lead to chaos and communal riots.
“Religion is not a matter of reason. I am an atheist and I believe that all religions are false and superstitious. But most people are religious and we should respect them. The Ayyappa devotees believe that Ayyappa is a naishthik brahmachari and he does not like menstruating women visiting the temple. It is a matter of faith and you cannot question it. The judges who delivered the verdict have no knowledge about the realities of this country. It is not proper for the courts to interfere in matters of faith,” he said.
According to him, the correct judgement is that of Indu Malhotra.

Stop working with Pakistani singers, or we’ll take action in our own style: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to Bollywood

0

On Saturday, the film wing of Raj Thackeray‘s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) asked music label companies to stop working with Pakistani singers.

“We have verbally communicated to Indian music companies like T-Series, Sony Music, Venus, Tips Music etc to not work with Pakistani singers. These companies should stop it immediately or we will take action in our own style,” Amey Khopkar, head of the MNS Chitrapat Sena told PTI.

The warning came after the recent Pulwama terrorist attack in which 49 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawaans lost their lives.

Recently, Bhushan Kumar‘s T-Series collaborated with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam for two different singles. Atif’s ‘Baarishein’ was unlisted on YouTube just a day after the Pulwama attack and Khopkar says it was MNS who got it done.

“They have removed their songs (from the company’s YouTube channel) post our warning,” Mr Khopkar claimed.

In 2016, after the Uri attacks, the Raj Thackeray-led party had similarly set a 48-hour deadline for all Pakistani artists working in India to leave the country.

Pulwama attack: Punjab politician blames ‘forces’ for committing excesses in Kashmir

0

Srinagar: Former Leader of Opposition and president of Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) Sukhpal Singh Khaira Saturday triggered a controversy while condoling the death of the CRPF troopers in Pulwama by saying that the Army and “security forces” in Kashmir have been accused of excesses like rape and fake encounters.

Khaira made the remarks on Facebook live morning, while travelling in a car. He opened his remarks by expressing sorrow over the death of 40 CRPF personnel in Pulwama suicide attack, but went on to state that there were some legitimate grievances of Kashmiris, which needed to be addressed, The Indian Express reported.

“Whenever their is a war-like situation, it takes two hands to clap. Our Army has also been accused of committing excesses in Kashmir. There have been reports of rapes. Recently, there was an incident where an officer, Major Gogoi, tied up a man in front of his jeep to prevent stone pelting. Even an animal is not given such treatment,” he said.

The former LoP also attacked Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for defending the actions of Major Gogoi. “There are some issues, which are indefensible and it is sad that Amarinder wrote articles defending Gogoi,” he said.

Khaira went on to say that there have also been accusations of fake encounter on security forces. “There are allegations that people have been killed in cold blood in fake encounters. Not all have faced such accusations, but some have definitely,” he said.

The PEP leader, who is also an MLA from Bholath and whose membership is now under challenge after he resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party, also raised the issue of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India. “When the then maharaja of Kashmir decided to accede to India, the decision was not as per liking of the vast majority of Kashmiris,” he said, adding that the issue must be solved through talks. “As far as possible, the demands of Kashmiris should be met.”

Khaira also rubbished Captain’s speech in Vidhan Sabha on Friday where he attacked Pakistan Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa for the suicide bombing in Pulwama. “On one hand he attacks ISI and Pakistan Army for interfering in India, on the other he has his Pakistani woman friend who is a defence analyst, living in the official residence of the Chief Minister. I am also surprised that the SAD and BJP are silent about her,” he said.
