Political astuteness needed to resolve Kashmir: Mehbooba

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday reiterated that dialogue and reconciliation between India and Pakistan have become inevitable for the resolution of Kashmir issue and that the decades old conflict cannot be resolved by the announcement of the economic packages.

While addressing the party functionaries and activists from Rajpora assembly segment, Mehbooba said that the resilience of the PDP workers is worth to hail as they in spite of the harsh weather attended the meeting in large numbers and gave a clear message that the party is going to emerge victorious and more stronger in the coming time.

Hailing the impeccable courage and determination with which the PDP workers have been strengthening the party on the ground, Mehbooba said that the real asset for the PDP since its foundation in 1999 has been its ground level workers.

PDP President stated further that after the 2014 polls accorded fragmented mandate to state’s political landscape, PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed decided to stitch the common ground with BJP will the sole motive to reincarnate the Vajpayee era in the state and to stop the vicious cycle of unabated killings and violence. “Even when I told my father that the decision to join hands with the BJP has more risks than rewards and would decline party’s popularity in the state, he said he was ready to sacrifice everything including his own self if that resolves the decades old conflict,”

Mehbooba said, adding that her father was confident that dialogue and reconciliation would be initiated and same measures taken during Vajpayee’s time shall be witnessed once again.

“However, when on November 7, 2015 Prime Minister Modi addressed a rally in Srinagar, he announced 80 thousand crore package but exhibited reluctance in pitching for a thaw between India and Pakistan for peace in the state. This disheartened everyone including the people who had come from far flung areas to listen to the Prime Minister,” Mehbooba said.

Recalling the horrific and inhuman act of brutality that was perpetrated on 7 year old innocent girl in Rasana exactly a year ago, she recounted her struggle to give justice to the victims of Rasana case, Mehbooba stated that she went to New Delhi and made it amply clear before the helmsmen that the PDP cannot remain the part of government until the two ministers who have openly supported the rapists aren’t sacked and until the investigation isn’t allowed to take place in a transparent manner.

“I remained in the forefront as the Chief Minister to thwart any attempts aimed at the intimidation of Gujjars and Bakerwals in the state and took every measure to ensure these communities that no one is going to do any harm to them,” she said, adding that securing the secular character of the state has been the top most priority of the PDP since inception and that the party every time foiled the attempts of the fringe groups to create any communal wedge between the different religious communities living in the state with harmony and brotherhood for centuries.

Conducive atmosphere inevitable for dialogue: Dr Farooq

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that the favourable atmosphere is inevitable for dialogue, which is the only way out to settle the issues.

Addressing party workers in Jammu, Dr Farooq said that the dialogue is the only way out to resolve the issues but there is a need of conducive atmosphere which is inevitable. He added that “under the shades of gun, no dialogue process is possible. We have to stop bullet culture for lasting peace in the region.”

“NC has also given priority to the people. When I became Chief Minister in 1996, I fought with many things as the school were shut, no bridge was there, no office was functioning as the people were frightened by the turmoil then, but I stood up to fight against the forces who were inimical to peace.”

About 35 percent reservation in other states, Dr Farooq said that the incumbent Chief Minister of Odissa, Naveen Patnayak has written to him, suggesting there should be reservation of 35 percent for women in Jammu and Kashmir also. “We will implement the law, which will ensure 35 percent reservation to women in the State once getting into the power,” he said.

However, he said that it is not easy to take such decisions as when his government took a decision to make 50 percent reservation for girls in Medical College then some people knocked the door of Supreme Court to put halt over the decision.

Dr Farooq also appealed the party workers to work hard and ensure the win of NC leaders who will be contesting the elections.

Srinagar, Jan 17: The incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masarat Aalam was on Thursday brought to Srinagar from Kot Bhalwal Jail to appear before the CJM Srinagar in a case lodged against him by Kothi Bagh police station in 2010.

The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for 30 January 2019. After the hearing, Aalam was taken back to Jammu jail, a spokesperson of the League Sajad Ayoubi said in a statement issued to GNS.

“Aalam is languishing in jail since long, however, it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to vengeance by state authorities,” he said, adding, “The administration has made its mind to place Masarat Alam behind bars and it is using PSA and other baseless charges as a tool otherwise courts have repeatedly quashed his detention and directed his release.”

Ayoubi said that keeping Masarat Aalam in jails on “concocted charges” and repeatedly slapping PSAs on him to prolong his incarceration is “nothing but a travesty of justice”.

“A conspiracy is being hatched to keep him behind bars. Authorities don’t want to free him. New ways and means are being devised to harass and intimidate him, but he will never succumb,” the spokesperson said.

Stressing for Masarat Alam’s early release, the spokesperson appealed to United Nations, OIC, Human Rights Council, Red Cross, Amnesty International and other rights bodies to come forward and take strong note of “illegal” detention of the incarcerated leader.

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, Jan 16: “History stands testimony to the fact that no power on earth, no matter how cruel and barbaric that be, no matter how prolonged it may be has ever succeeded in curbing the freedom sentiments of any nation and every oppressor has a definite and tragic end if fought with unity, sincerity and dedication. Our oppressor has crossed every limit and every degree of brutality to subjugate us,” said chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, in a telephonic address to the mourners of the Zeenat-ul-Islam at Shopian today.

In a statement issued here, Geelani has reiterated his pledge to take the movement to its logical end and never to allow anybody to barter the precious blood of martyrs. “We need to be aware of this and we are duty bound to safe guard their sacrifices and should desist from such activities which prove detrimental for our movement,” he said.

He said that deceitful slogans of development, prosperity or material gains can never be a substitute for freedom. Pro-Indian politicians have turned into political leaches, sucking every drop of our blood to satisfy their masters in Delhi.

He said that election drama and the multi faced political stooges pose as our saviors to fetch them votes in the name of roads, electricity and water, but in reality they are the people who strengthen the unholy bond of slavery so nation as a whole should desist from any support to them.

The pro-freedom leader has said that, “our movement has become so precious that no perk and privilege can compel us for any compromise.”

Stressing upon people in general and youth in particular, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that we need to strengthen our faith and protect our civil, social, religious and human liberties, avoid miss deeds and nourish the Islamic culture in our homes and society without indulging in sectarian hatred and social evils.
