Faesal’s resignation not in country’s interest: Gupta

0

JAMMU, Jan 16 (ANI): Former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday expressed disappointment over former IAS officer Shah Faesal’s decision to quit government service, and said such a decision is not in the interest of the country.

Speaking to ANI, Gupta opined, “Faesal must work for the country instead of resigning from the post. Such a decision is not in the country’s interest. We want such people to work for the country’s welfare instead of speaking in support of militants, supporting militants is like supporting Pakistan. His father was too killed by the militants. He should work for the country.”

Faesal, who joined the service in 2010, announced his resignation on January 9 over “unabated killings” in the Valley and “lack of any sincere reach-out from the Union government.” The 35-year-old alleged “insidious attacks on the special identity of the J&K State and growing culture of intolerance and hate in the mainland India in the name of hypernationalism.”

He went on to add that “voices of reason in this country cannot be muzzled for long and the environment of siege will need to end if we wish to usher in a true democracy.” (ANI)

JAMMU, Jan 16 (ANI): In an outreach to the Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said he was available for the separatist grouping if it wanted to flag any “injustice” meted out to common people but ruled out any political discussions, saying it is the mandate of the Central government.

“Hurriyat should not consider me an alien,” a national news agency ANI said while quoting the Governor. He said the Hurriyat must approach him directly with matters pertaining to atrocities and injustice to the common man if they come across any such situation.

“As I am available to a common man, I am also available for the Hurriyat.  If some incident takes place regarding atrocities on residents here, I will, with my full force, make efforts to deliver justice,” Malik has said.

“I respect the senior leaders of the Hurriyat and will treat them the way I am treating the common man,” he added. At the same time, he made it clear that his discussions with the Hurriyat will not be political in nature.

“Discussions with the Hurriyat cannot be termed as political. Being the Governor, I do not have the powers to hold political discussions with them. Only the Centre has the authority to do so,” Malik emphasised.

The Governor’s Rule was imposed in the state on June 19, last year after Mehbooba Mufti resigned as Chief Minister following BJP’s exit from the alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The BJP and PDP, despite having ideologically diverse views, had formed a coalition government in 2015 after the state elections threw up a hung assembly. The BJP had 25 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly while the PDP had 28. This is the fourth time in the last 10 years that a Governor’s rule is imposed in the state. (ANI)

Non-NC governments weakened JK’s Special Status: Omar

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, Jan 16: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that state’s special status was tampered with whenever NC remains away from the power corridors of the state.
While speaking to a gathering of party workers at a one day party convention in Beerwah constituency he said that non-NC governments in J&K have proved detrimental to the special status of state. “The basic structure of the state was entirely obliterated by the opportunistic forces that got a field day because of our absence. From 1953 to 1974, 37 amendments were made to the state constitution making a pale shadow of what it used to be before 1953,” he said.
Omar said the very identity of our state is facing an onslaught from all sides and the severity of the situation demands a strong mandated government of National Conference that will put up a strong front for safeguarding our special position. “Prime Minister Narender Modi insulted Late Mufti Syed in an open public platform. This would have impossible in a scenario if PDP had the numbers to run the government on its own. We have never seen such a thing happening in other states, where a sitting chief minister was publically humiliated,” he said adding that primary reason for that was a fractured mandate compounded with the fact that other alliance partners are always bound by central whip of party, which severely affects the working and maneuverability of government.
Omar said, “Coalition governments in J&K has proved detrimental to state’s interests and that the need of the hour is to have a strong nucleus to carry forward the agenda of peace, development and reconciliation.”
Among others Political Adviser to Omar Abdullah Tanvir Sadiq, Prof Abdul Majeed Mattoo, Muhammad Ibrahim Mir, Mirwaiz Central Kashmir Molvi Lateefullah, and Muhammad Amin Banday were also present on the occasion.
Omar asserted that National Conference is the only party with a clear road map to address internal and external dimensions of J&K.
Later Omar Abdullah visited many areas of the constituency amidst heavy snowfall. He made stopovers at various places where people apprised him about the issues concerning the constituency. He gave them a patient hearing and promised all possible help.
