This year 266 militants spilled their blood in 345 encounters: Hizb

Srinagar, Dec 29, : Militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen Saturday issued yearly report on Kashmir. The report contains the incidents that occurred in Kashmir Valley this year (2018).

   As per the report, issued by Spokesperson and Incharge Hizb Media Centre, Salim Hashmi, this year 266 militants spilled their blood in 345 encounters. Among the top slain commander were scholar Dr Abdul Manan Wani, Assistant Professor Dr Rafi Ahmed Bhat, PhD scholar Dr Sabzar Ahmed Sofi, scholar Eitimaad Ahmed Malik, Engineer Adnan Lone, Hyder Ali and others.

  “These slain daring militants killed 231 Indian Forces personnel. Among those were four officers including a JCO. In different encounter 375 Forces personnel including five Major rank officers’ sustained injuries,” the report issued to news agency CNS reads.

   “This year militants carried out 33 major and minor IED attacks that either killed or injured dozens of troopers. Three casper vehicles of Indian Army were also damaged in these blasts.”

   “During the encounters with militants, Indian Army resorted to arson and made use of mortar shells thus damaging 50 residential houses and a mosque. During the clashes with common people, Indian Army made free use of bullets and pellets killing 86 civilians and injuring 1800 youth. Majority of these youth sustain pellet injures and lost eye sight. The clashes also resulted in the injuries of police and forces personnel.”

   The yearly report reads that Indian Forces personnel arrested 450 persons in different nocturnal raids. “For monetary gains and promotions, Indian Forces personnel implicated 107 youth in stone-pelting cases and Public Safety Act was slapped on majority of those youth.”

   “This year 42 dead bodies mostly bullet ridden were recovered from different parts of Kashmir. There was a surge in rifle snatching incidents. Militants in audacious acts decamped with 41 rifles.”

  Hizb spokesperson in its report has added that the moral of 8 lakh Indian soldiers stationed in Kashmir is on low and they are under tremendous pressure. “Indian soldiers use different tactics to leave Kashmir. The incidents of suicide are on rise. This year 24 soldiers killed themselves as they were denied leave.” (CNS) 

BMC conducts sanitation drive in town

Baramulla, Dec 29 : Muncipal Council Baramulla continue in it’s mission to make town a neat, clean and garbage free on Saturday conducted a cleanliness and sanitation drive in parts of town. 


During the sanitation drive a team of Muncipal Council Baramulla led by President Umar Kakroo thoroughly cleaned up these areas and cleared all bad spots.
Newly elected president of Muncipal Council Baramulla Umar Kakroo said said that town has to look neat and clean and there should be no garbage seen on road sides, he said this is our mission and we hope general public will also cooperate us for making Baramulla Green and Clean town.


Umar also appealed to shopkeepers in town to cooperate with us in keeping Baramulla clean and green and also not to use polythene carry bags.


Pertinently earlier this week MCB conducted sanitation drive in Baramulla hospital.

249 militants killed this year across valley : Army

Srinagar, Dec 29 : Atleast 250 militants have been killed across Kashmir this year so far and this is a big success to the security agencies a senior army officer said on Saturday.


A senior army officer talking with this reporter said that killing 249 militants is a set back as with this we are able to crush the terrorism in Kashmir at larger.


The official said that there are many factors about the youths who are joining militancy ranks, but “one certainly is the radicalization and which we all talk about another is alienation and more important than that is proxy war that is being played out here by our neighbor Pakistan and that is a major factor for which youngsters going wayward and getting recruited into this unending spiral of violence.


Officer while appealing to youth of valley said that Army always had been to shun violence whatever grievances they have.
He however added that  there is a government and democratic process in place. They need to use the process and shun the gun culture.


Officer said that army was here to conduct the counter militant operations and “we will continue with our operations but at the same time, we are appealing to the youngsters to shun the gun culture, surrender and even during operations we give an opportunity to the militants to so that they can live a happy life.


Pertinently four Jaish militants were killed in an encounter in Hajin Payeen area of Rajpora village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.


The four Jaish militants who were killed in a gun battle were later identified as Waseem Akram (27) of Tikken village, Sajad Khandey son of Mohammad Akbar of Rajpora village, Muzamil Nabi Dar (20) alias Abu Junaid of Rajpora village and fourth one a foreigner militant was killed with them.

Post encounter clashes rocks in Pulwama parts

Pulwama, Dec 29 : Massive clashes rocked in Hanjan village of Rajpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday after the gunfight in which four Jaish militants were killed.

Reports said scores of youth hit the streets and pelted stones on deployed forces in the area.

The forces in turn lobbed tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth resulting injuries to several persons.

The injured were rushed to local hospital for advance treatment where from one has been referred to Srinagar hospital for advance treatment.

The clashes in the area was on when last reports came in.

Pertainally on Friday a MBA pass out turned militant was killed in a gunfight in Pulwama village.

People of this Pattan village cross river to reach the road

Srinagar, Dec 28 (GNS): The people of Dargam, Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district demand a bridge to reach to the main road which is separated from the village by a river.

The people have been crossing the river to reach the main road as there is no alternative route.

Though everybody in this village suffers but the students and patients are the worst hit, the locals said, adding that the absence of bridge puts the lives of the children (students) at risk.

They said whenever water level increases in the river, the students don’t go to school as they face a lot of problems while crossing, thereby affecting their studies.

The patients also face a similar situation and people are left with no option but to carry them on the bed to reach the main road.

“Many times, patients have lost their lives while crossing the river,” they told GNS.

The locals said they have several time requested the government to construct a bridge but to no avail.

It is extremely unfortunate that the government is insensitive towards the issue concerning the lives of people, they said and reiterated their appeal to authorities to bridge the gap between the village and the road.

Advisor Khursheed Ahmad Ganie told reporters: “I have noted this issue and assure people that tomorrow the concerned executive engineer will visit the spot and will see the what possible should be done to address the genuine problem  after receiving the report through deputy commissioner.” (GNS)

JK Govt getting ready for assembly elections as Rajnath announces centre’s willingness

Srinagar, Dec 28 : With Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh drooping hints of conducting Assembly elections along with forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Governor Satya Pal Malik holding one on one meetings with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Shalinder Kumar and IGP Jammu.

The stage seems to have been set for the conduct of assembly elections in the state.


Sources while disclosing this to Kashmir News Service (KNS) revealed that the central government has conveyed its willingness to hold assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in the state and Governor Satya Pal Malik has started gearing up election machinery for the conduct of assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir state.

As part of the election preparations, chief electoral officer Shalinder Kumar on Friday held extensive one on one meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik during which he briefed him on the preparation of electoral roles and other issues related to preparation of elections in the state.

The decision to hold parliamentary elections along with assembly elections has been reduced to a mere formality now as Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has made it emphatically clear on the floor of the house in Lok Sabha that it is for the election commission to take a call on the conduct of assembly elections along with parliamentary elections in the state.


Meanwhile former chief minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah has in a tweet welcomed Rajnath Singh’s statement on showing his readiness for conduct of assembly elections in the state. Omar wrote on twitter, “An important assurance on the floor of the house in Lok Sabha this should put to rest motivated speculations that elections in the state will happen only after the general elections.”


It is in place to mention here that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh while replying to a debate on proclamation of Presidential rule in the state in the Lok Sabha said, “The central government would take no wrong or immoral action in the state. We are ready for assembly polls but the decision has to be taken by the election commission. We are totally committed to democratic process. (KNS)

45 Broiler units provided under NLM at Sopore

BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 28: Animal Husbandry Department today provided 45 Broiler units comprising 600 birds to the beneficiaries under National Livestock Mission here at Sopore.

Three hundred birds were provided in the first phase while 300 more birds will be provided to each unit holder by next month.

The function was chaired by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Dr. M.Y. Chaproo. Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Baramulla, Dr. K.M. Kirmani, doctors and field staff of the department and the farmers were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the director appealed the unemployed youth to avail benefits of various employment schemes and open their ventures. He said that the government is taking all measures to cut the poultry imports and for this a huge number of units are being set up in the State. He said the aim is to provide gainful employment to educated unemployed youth besides to combat the shortage of the poultry and mutton.

Earlier, the director interacted with the unit holders and explained to them various schemes in vogue.

The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer said that 90 Backyard layer units have already been distributed under National Livestock Mission in the district raising the total number of such units to 135.He said that Rs 30000 each have also been provided to the unit holders for construction of poultry sheds in the district.

MeT predicts improvement in temperature from Dec 31

Though the temperature recorded in Srinagar has broke nearly 3-decade-old record in the Valley while as the local Meteorological department (MeT) on Friday predicted improvement in the temperature after December 31st.

Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 7.7 degree Celsius.

The water bodies including the world famous Dal Lake froze on Friday morning.

Minus 7.6 degree Celsius was recorded almost 28-years back, the officials had said on Thursday.

Deputy Director Meteorological (MeT) department, Mukhtar Ahmad told KNS that the minimum temperature will improve from Dec 31 (Monday), saying that the Valley would receive fresh snowfall or rainfall in the first week of January.

He added that the untimely snowfall in November and dry spell in December is the reason behind bone-chilling weather in Kashmir, saying that once the wet spell begins, the temperature will start improving. (KNS)

Year 2018: 495 People Including 245 Militants Killed In Kashmir

At least 495 people were killed due to militancy related incidents as well as cross border firing since January 2018. This year, people in Kashmir saw a couple of bloodies days.

On April 1 alone, in three different encounters in South Kashmir and subsequent clashes 13 militants, 4 civilians and 3 army soldiers were killed. One militant was killed in Dialgam (Anantnag) encounter, 7 militants were killed in Dragadh and 5 militants were gunned down in Kachdoora Shopian.

Among the 495 killings half of the slain are militants. This year up to Dec 28, 245 militants and 134 civilians were killed. Among the 115 Forces killed, 55 are Army soldiers, 9 are CRPF personnel, 10 BSF personnel, CISF and SSB one each and 40 are local policemen.

Security agencies this year managed to neutralize A and A++ category militants. The top commanders who were neutralized this year included included Abu Dujana, Abdullah Ghaznavi, Bashir Lashkari, Junaid Ahmed Qayoom Najar, Mehmood Bhai, Umar Khatab from Pakistan, killed at Hartar Sopore, Muzafar Ahmed Naiko alias Muza Molvi of Sopore killed at Gulzarpora Mohchu in Budgam, Abu Surag of Pakistan, Adil Ahmad Reshi of Bijbehara, Abid Ahmad Sheikh of Saktipora and Masood Ahmad Shah of Bewoora village killed in Awora Pahalgam, Abu Musaib of Pakistan killed at Parr Mohalla Hajin, Qari Anas and Abu Ali killed in Hadoora Ganderbal, Azaharuddin alias Ghazi Umar and Sajad Ahmed alias Babar killed in Amargarh Sopore, Mudasir Ahmad Tantray alias Asim of Redwani, Wakeel Ahmad Thokar of Harigam Kulgam, Farooq Ahmad Bhat of Chak Dasand and Younus Lone of Hawoora-Mishpora killed in Nagbal Frisal Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmed Seer killed at Bandipora, Muhammad Shafi Sherguri and Jahangir Ahmed Ganaie killed at Padgampora, Ayoub Lelhari killed in Pulwama, Sabzar Ahmed killed at Saimou Tral and others.

Majority of the militants killed this year were highly qualified.
In 2008, 550 deaths were reported in Kashmir Valley due to violence, while in 2012, the number was decreased by 99. Then onwards, there was an upsurge in the number of deaths due to violence.
The civilian killings in last four years has increased manifold in Kashmir Valley. In contrast to 41 civilian killings in 2015, at least 134 civilians lost their lives this year.
From 2015 to 2018, Kashmir has witnessed 383 civilian killings. I26 civilians died in 2016 and so far the number of civilian casualties is same in the first 11 months of current year. In 2017, at least 86 civilians including 8 Yatris became prey of militancy related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
In May this year, there were maximum civilian casualties and the number is 21. As per data available 12 civilians were killed in January, 6 in February, 12 in March, 18 in April, 11 in June, 9 in July, 7 each in August and September, 13 in October and 10 in November and 8 in December.

In 2015, 4 former militants affiliated with Hurriyat were killed by unknown gunmen in the month of June in Sopore town who included Sheikh Altaf of Iqbal Nagar, Khurshid Ahmed Bhat at Bomai, Mehrajuddin Dar at Badambagh Sopore and Ajaz Ahmed Reshi at Mundji Sopore.
Several political workers fall prey to bullets in all these years. They included a National Conference Sarpanch Fayaz Ahmed Dar of Pulwama, PDP worker Bashir of Qasbayar Pulwama, government gunman Abdul Rashid Billa of Hajin, a Public Prosecutor and NC worker Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan of Pinjora Shopian, PDP District President Advocate Abdul Gani Dar of Pulwama, a Janta Dal United worker Ajaz Ahmed of Pulwama, a former panch and PDP leader Ghulam Rasool Ganai of Anantnag and BJP district president Pulwama Shabir Ahmed Bhat who was shot dead at Pathan Pulwama.

This year, at least 40 policemen were killed in different militancy related incidents in the current year in Kashmir Valley. Seven cops were killed in August, followed by 5 in June, 4 each in the months of January and February, 3 in September, 2 each in March, May and July and one in April.

On January 6, a powerful IED blast resulted in the death of four policemen in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district who were identified as ASI Irshad Ahmad EXK number 825685 resident of Doda about 58 years old, Constable Ghulam Nabi Belt number 720/IRP 3rd resident of Rohama Rafiaabad, Constable Parvaiz Ahmad Belt number 915/IRP 3rd resident of Vilgam Handwara, Constable Mohammad Amin Belt number 470/IRP 3rd resident of Sogam Kupwara.

On February 5, two policemen Mushtaq Ahmed of Karnah and Babar Khan of Shangas Anantnag were killed when militants fired upon them inside SMHS Hospital helping LeT militant Naveed Jatt to free from police custody. Naveed along with six other prisoners were brought to hospital for medical check-up on that day.
Two cops were shot dead by suspected militants on February 25 at two different places. An Armed policeman Kultar Singh of Samba was killed at Charar-e-Sharif shrine while another cop Farooq Ahmed Itoo of Chadoora guarding Hurriyat leaders Fazal Haq Qureshi’s house at Soura was also shot dead. Militants managed to decamp with the rifles of both these slain cops.

Two policemen were killed during the intervening night of March 20 and 21 at Halmatpora Kupwara in a fierce encounter. The said encounter also resulted in the death of five non-local militants and three Indian soldiers.

On March 29, suspected militants shot dead SPO Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh at Katoo Wubzan village of Dachnipora belt of Bijbehara while his wife Fareeda Begum received injuries during a scuffle with assailants. Two days later on March 31, suspected militants shot dead another SPO Muhammad Ashraf Mir in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Only one cop became the prey in the month of April and this time he was an SOG man Latif Gojri who along with a soldier was killed in a massive gun battle in Laam Forest area of Tral town in Pulwama. Four militants were also killed in this gun fight.
Two policemen were killed in May. On May 11 militants killed a cop Shameem Ahmed of Yaripora Kulgam when they attacked a minority picket at Wadwun Budgam while on May 15 a policeman Abdul Rashid was killed in a militant attack at Padshahibagh Bijbehara.

On June 2 Policeman Aqib Wagay of Panzgam who was injured in a militant attack succumbed to his injuries. On June 13 two policemen Ghulam Hassan Wagay and Ghulam Rasool were killed while another cop was injured after militants attacked court complex Pulwama. Militants snatched their rifles as well.

A cop Tanvir Ahmed was killed on June 20 after militants attacked a police patrol at Galandar Pampore. An SOG man Ashiq Hussain was killed on June 22 in Khiram Srigufwara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district during an encounter. This encounter also resulted in the killing of four militants and a civilian.

On July 5 suspected militants abducted policeman Javaid Hamid Dar near Vehil Shopian and later killed him while on July 16 Mudasir Ahmed, a security guard of National Conference leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir was killed after militants attacked their vehicle in Muran Pulwama. Militants also snatched two rifles while another security guard was also injured in the attack.

The month of August witnesses 7 killings of policemen. On August 22 militants killed 3 cops in three separate incidents in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and kulgam district on the eve of Eid-ul-Azah. They were Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Dar of Larav Pulwama, Yaqoob Shah of Loisani Pulwama and Fayaz Ahmed of Zazripora.

Four policemen were gunned down by militants in on August 29 in Arhama village of Shopian district. They were identified as Constable Ishfaq Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir of Watergam Dangiwacha, Constable Muhammad Iqbal Mir son of Abdul Rehman Mir a resident of Hardu Chanam Rohama, Constable Javaid Ahmed Bhat son of Nazir Ahmed Bhat of Panzinara Sumbal and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmed, a resident of Zawoora Shopian.

On September 21, three cops were abducted and killed by militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. They were identified as Firdous Kuchary and Kuldeep Singh of Batagund and Nisar Dhobi of Kaprin Shopian.

Sep 30: A policeman was killed in a militant attack on police station Shopian. Militants also decamped with the rifle of the slain policeman Sakib Mir.

On Oct 17 two militants and an SOG man Kamal Kishore were killed in Fathekadal Srinagar encounter. On Oct 27 a police sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir of Sontbugh Pulwama was shot dead by militants in Wahibugh area of pulwama district and on Dec 11 militant attack in Zainapore Shopian leaves four cops dead. They were identified as Anees Ahmad Mir, a resident of Souch, Kulgam; Mehraj-u-din, resident of Bandipora; Hamidullah, resident of Anantnag and Abdul Majeed, a resident of Ganderbal.

The 2018 also witnessed incidents of rifle snatching. A special police officer Adil Bashir posted with the People’s Democratic Party MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir fled with at least eight weapons including the licensed pistol of the former legislator from his official residence at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar.
This year majority of the strike calls forwarded by Joint Resistance Leadership were against the civilian killings. JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik faced curbs from security agencies. Geelani continued to remain under house arrest while Mirwaiz was frequently barred from offering Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid. (CNS)

Mehbooba objects to arrests of suspects by NIA in election season

Srinagar, Dec 28 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has raised doubts over the arrests of suspects by declaring them “terrorists on the basis of Sulti bombs, associating with the dreaded IS.”

Taking to twitter Mehbooba wrote, “National security is supreme. But declaring suspects as terrorists on the basis of Sutli bombs, associating with the dreaded IS is premature. It has already devastated their lives and families.

NIA must learn from earlier episodes in which the accused were acquitted after decades.”

In yet another tweet Mehbooba wrote “arrests by NIA in the election season do raise suspicion, especially after the urban Naxal case seems to be falling apart. National security is best served by being just and inclusive, not suspicious of an entire community.” (KNS)
