Police allegedly thrash Treasury Accountant in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 30 : Police allegedly beat up a government employee while dispersing crowd who were violating Covid-19 SOP’s outside Jammu Kashmir Bank here in Langate area of North Kashmir’s Handwara town.

Treasury Accountant Sajad Ashraf told news agency KNT that he came out from his Treasury office for some work in the Bank as both the offices are located in the same building.

“Police were dispersing crowd outside bank branch during which a police officer pushed me away. When I identified myself and asked him stop treating people like cattle, he sought identity card from me. Unfortunately, I had left my identity card in the bag that was on my table in the office. When I failed to produce the identity card, three policemen including the officer pounced on me and started hitting me. My hand and arm was fractured,” the victim said.

The employee said that police thought he is the part of the crowd and they not only abused him but also assaulted him.

When contacted, Chowki Officer, Police Post Langate refuted the allegations saying cops didn’t beat any person news agency KNT reported.
