Power sector service restoration post snowfall: Comm Secy PDD takes appraisal

To review service restoration works in power sector post snowfall, Commissioner Secretary, Power Development Department (PDD) Hirdesh Kumar Singh today convened a meeting with the officers of PDD and PGCIL.

During the meeting, detailed report was given on various steps taken by power department in view of current circumstances including ERS for collapsed big towers, Cross- jumpering at places of tower collapse as temporary measures, Cross- conductoring at 132 KV tower collapses. It was also informed that Buffer stock of poles- 250 for each district and transformers- 50 each for Anantnag, Baramulla & Kupwara and 30 each for rest 07 districts has been mobilised and is being dispatched to each district; shall be in place in each district by monday evening.

It was informed in the meeting that power scenario in all districts of Jammu division is ok and power has been restored at almost all places in all 10 districts barring few places like Padder area in Kishtwar, which shall be fully restored in 02 days.

Regarding Kashmir Division, district wise status report was given: in Srinagar and Ganderbal 90%, while in Pulwama 80% services have been restored; rest to be restored within 02 days; In Anantnag and Kulgam, power to all towns with 70% area of district restored; remaining shall be restored by tomorrow.


In Shopian, all towns with 50% area restored, rest within 03 days; in Budgam, Budgam town and all the essentials in the town have been restored; 50% area to be restored by tomorrow and rest within 04 days.


In Baramulla, temporary arrangements have been made for DH and water works by pulling power from LJHP in island mode; 100% restoration within 03 days; in Kupwara, 80% restoration within 03 days, rest within one week, while in Bandipora, 100% restoration within 03 days.

Commissioner Secretary also conducted extensive tour earlier in the day, of Central and North Kashmir, along with CE (Distribution) KPDCL and CE (Transmission) JKPTCL and concerned officers of PDD.

During the tour, heavy damages were witnessed to power infrastructure e.g. Collapsing of 04 towers of 220/ 133 KV TL in North Kashmir, snapping of 10-12 Km 220/ 132 KV TL conductor at various places, breakage of 3-4,000 poles of 33/11/44 KV lines, 500 transformers and extensive damages in HT/ LT conductors etc.
