Prez Murmu inaugurates 2 projects at SMVDB, pays obeisance at Shrine

JAMMU, Oct 12: President Droupadi Murmu Thursday inaugurated two important and prestigious projects at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan besides paying obeisance at the cave shrine in the Trikuta Hills in Reasi district of Jammu region.

Accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the President, arrived at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan this morning. Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Anshul Garg received the President. President Murmu inaugurated the Skywalk and re-modelled Parvati Bhawan, which had been constructed at the Bhawan.

The Skywalk will make the journey of pilgrims very comfortable as the pilgrims’ proceedings to the Bhawan and returning after darshan will have separate routes, resulting in managing crowds and accidents. The skywalk

The Skywalk proposal was conceived after the 31 December 2021 tragedy in which 12 pilgrims were killed and 16 others were injured.

President Murmu also inaugurated the Parvati Bhawan which has facilities of 1500 lockers that will help nearly 10 to 15,000 pilgrims every day to deposit their luggage, take bath, and proceed to the cave shrine through Skywalk and return and one floor each exclusively for men and women washrooms.

The President also offered prayers and paid obeisance to the Goddess Vaishno Devi in the Cave Shrine. Earlier in the day President planted Pagoda sapling on the premises of Raj Bhawan Auditorium, Srinagar.

President, Murmu, yesterday addressed the 20th Convocation of Kashmir University and presented medals and degrees to the scholars of the varsity.

She said that it was a matter of pride that around 55 percent of enrolled students at Kashmir University were girls. She urged the youth to adopt the path of development and discipline for the holistic growth of the nation. The President also said that sustainable developmental education is a priority in a place like Jammu and Kashmir as it rests in the Himalayan ecosystem and said that apart from academics, the youth of the country must take up social services for the greater good of the country in general and humanity in particular. The President also visited the Army’s 15 Corps Headquarters in Srinagar where she laid a wreath at the War Memorial. The President was on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir as the first citizen. She left for New Delhi late in the afternoon.
