SRINAGAR, Oct 31: At a time, when covid-19 has hit everything especially the education sector, a private school teacher has come up with the idea of online tuitions for students across Kashmir.
Initially Samreen, the teacher, started taking online mathematics classes for 3rd to 8th standard students at just 500 rupees per month.
“I started these classes in lockdown. First I was teaching students who were enrolled in the school where I am working as a teacher. Then an idea came to my mind that why don’t I take classes of other students also,” Samreen told Kashmir Despatch.
She said that the response from the students was good and initially she had only four students enrolled for tuitions but now she teaches at least 12 students individually per day giving half an hour to each student.
Samreen also added how the Facebook pages like ‘Yakjut’ and ‘Wasitoon’ (pages for kashmiri women) have helped her in this initiative. “Only students whose mothers are member of these groups have enrolled their children in her class. Some students from Kuwait, who are basically Kashmiri have also joined her classes through these pages,” she informed Kashmir Despatch.
Samreen teaches the students of Saint Peters International School Anantnag, DPS Baramulla, DPS Athwajan, Malinlionson and Tyndale Biscoe besides two students who are from Jammu province.
However, she said, the snail’s speed of mobile internet speed in Jammu and Kashmir since 4th August 2019 has been a major hurdle in her reach out to other students. “First I took my classes on zoom but due to connectivity problem some students weren’t able to hear me properly after that I switched to WhatsApp for classes but low internet connectivity has still been a problem,” said Samreen.
