Action against Abdullah taken as he refused to withdraw petition in SC: Akbar Lone
Srinagar, Sep 16 : Hours after the Centre slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on Member of Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference (NC) on Monday said that the party will knock the doors of court over this decision and challenge the move.
NC senior leader and Member of Parliament, Muhammad Akbar Lone told reporters that it seems that PSA on Jammu and Kashmir’s three time former chief minister has been slapped as he refused to withdraw the petition filed in Supreme Court (SC) over abrogation of Article 370.
Lone stated that India should be ashamed following the slapping of PSA on Dr. Abdullah, adding that it was Dr. Farooq alone who was being cursed and abused for chanting India’s name. “It is unfortunate that Dr. Farooq has been slapped with PSA for being loyal to the country always,” he said.
“The government has no justification for slapping PSA on Dr. Farooq. Now, we will move to the court to see why the people are being slapped with the Safety Acts,” he added.
Asked whether other leaders will also be slapped with PSA, Lone said, “No, the other leaders will not be slapped with PSA as it seems that the reason behind slapping PSA on him was, he refused to withdraw the petition filed by the party on abrogation of Article 370 in the top court of India.”
Earlier, PSA on Dr. Farooq has brewed resentment among the Member of Parliaments. Assadudin Owaisi, top leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has asked central to define difference between separatist leader Masarat Aalam Bhat and Dr. Farooq Abdullah following the slapping of PSA on former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister. Many of the leaders also expressed their resentment against the government’s decision. (KNO)
