SRINAGAR, July 16: In a significant step towards strengthening financial literacy and promoting informed participation in India’s capital markets, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and other securities market participants, will organize a comprehensive Investor Awareness initiative during the 3rd Chinar Book Festival 2026 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar.
The week-long initiative will run alongside the prestigious literary festival from July 18 to July 26, bringing together experts from India’s securities market ecosystem to educate investors, students, professionals and the general public about safe investing, financial planning and investor protection.
The SEBI Investor Awareness Stall will be formally inaugurated on July 18 by Sarah Rizvi, Inspector General of Police, Crime, Jammu & Kashmir. The inaugural ceremony will also witness the presence of senior dignitaries from SEBI, the National Stock Exchange and other leading securities market participants, underscoring the growing importance of investor education and financial inclusion in the Union Territory.
The awareness stall is expected to serve as an interactive platform where visitors can gain first-hand knowledge about the functioning of India’s securities markets, investment opportunities, mutual funds, equity markets, investor rights, grievance redressal mechanisms, cyber safety in financial transactions and measures to safeguard themselves from fraudulent investment schemes.
Officials said the initiative forms part of SEBI’s nationwide Investor Awareness Programme, which seeks to build financial confidence among citizens by encouraging informed investment decisions and enhancing awareness about regulatory safeguards available to investors.
One of the key attractions of the programme will be a dedicated Investor Facilitation Camp, scheduled from July 19 to July 21, where market experts and officials will directly interact with investors and members of the public. The camp will provide guidance on various aspects of investing in the securities market, address investor queries, explain regulatory processes and educate participants about responsible financial decision-making.
The facilitation camp is expected to benefit first-time investors, students, entrepreneurs, government employees, retirees and individuals interested in exploring investment opportunities in regulated financial markets. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about digital investing, risk assessment, financial planning and the importance of verifying investment products before committing their savings.
The participation of SEBI, NSE and other securities market institutions at the Chinar Book Festival reflects the increasing emphasis on integrating financial literacy with broader educational and public awareness initiatives. Organisers believe that hosting the awareness campaign during one of the region’s largest literary and cultural events will enable the programme to reach a diverse audience, including youth and aspiring investors.
The 3rd Chinar Book Festival, organised by the National Book Trust, India, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Jammu & Kashmir. By combining literature, education and financial awareness under one roof, the event aims to encourage informed citizenship while promoting a culture of reading, learning and responsible financial participation.
Market experts believe that initiatives of this nature are crucial in expanding financial inclusion, particularly in emerging regions, by equipping citizens with the knowledge needed to participate safely and confidently in India’s rapidly evolving financial markets.
