Snow avalanche : Two Army porters killed in Kupwara

Kupwara : Two Army porters were killed as a snow avalanche hit a border village in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Thursday.

Official sources told Kashmir Despatch that in an unfortunate incident of snow avalanche in Jhumgund area in Trehgam in Kupwara district two army porters lost their lives after they came under snow avalanche.

Official said soon after the incident a team of police , army reached the spot and started search operation.

A police officer while sharing the details to Kashmir Despatch identified both deceased as Mansoor Ahmed and Ishaq Ahmed.

Pertainally Kashmir valley on Thursday received season’s first snowfall.

The fresh snowfall in the valley also affected normal life as electricity supply has been snapped , while many roads in rural areas have been blocked due to snow.

Authorities also suspended traffic on Jammu_Srinagar national highway and advised travelers not to undertake journey without finding out the latest status of the road from traffic helplines in Jammu and Srinagar.
