While the Government of India has issued the necessary instructions asking the UT government in Jammu and Kashmir to be more vigilant, the spike in COVID cases in this region should assume more significance. The deadly virus which is by now spreading fast with its mutated version, can not be stemmed by the government machinery alone but the same needs to be tackled with an active cooperation of the people.
Generally speaking, the majority of the people seem least bothered about the consequences of this pandemic and seem to be more complacent about the situation. Guard has been lowered and the necessary precautions which were earlier considered as an integral part of the daily life habits of an ordinary citizen have now become mundane.
Be it any public place, especially the hospitals which are considered as the epicentre of every infectious disease, the attendants and some staffers seem not following the standard operating procedures and the authorities seem least bothered about the enforcement of the most vital guidelines.
Same is the situation in market places especially in malls where a large section of consumers seldom follow any precautions and take the spread of this deadly disease very lightly. The mall owners are also non serious about the guidelines set by the authorities and hardly any customer is being questioned for his or her lackadaisical attitude.
We must take lethality of this disease very seriously and follow all the standard operating procedures to minimise the spread of this hitherto non treatable disease. Besides we must not lend ears to the rumours about Covid jabs and instead get Covid shots on a volunteer basis.
The children and elderly people besides other high risk sections of our population should be administered the vaccination on priority basis. Usage of marks, sanitisers and soaps should again be a priority for every conscious citizen if we really want to prevent this deadly disease from consuming precious human lives.
