Baramulla : The students appearing for B.Ed program in their 3rd and 4th semester Thursday complained about improper heating arrangements at the examination centres across Kashmir.
With the onset of Chillai Kalan- harshest phase of winter, Kashmir is reeling under intense cold weather.
The students said that they faced difficulty writing their papers in the cold without heating arrangements in their exam centres.
The examination of 3rd and 4th semester commenced today on 23 December, 2021 and is scheduled up to January 5.
The students from various districts said that the authorities have failed to put in place proper heating and lighting arrangements for the examinees.
“The examination of our first subject started at 2:15 p.m and culminated at 5:15 in the evening. There was no proper heating arrangement for the students which caused inconvenience to us while writing for our exams,” said Tawqeer Ahmad, a student from Rafiabad area of Baramulla who appeared at North Campus of Kashmir University.
The students from Baramulla outskirts including Pattan, Kandi and Rafiabad area complained that they reached home after the Maghrib prayers.
A number of students and parents called over the phone and complained about the non-availability of heating facilities in exam centres.
There are reports that in some examination centres, there was no proper arrangement of lighting as well.
“Besides unavailability of heating arrangements the students are not provided lighting facilities as some of the centres are set up in small rooms. Given the cold conditions, the doors and windows remain closed and it becomes difficult to write the exams,” said Hidayat ul Nisa, a female student from Pattan.
The students said that before the commencement of examination, the authorities must have ensured all the facilities in the examination and avoid the inconveniences of the students.
“The students have been left at the receiving end due to the lack of coordination between the various departments including heads of the educational institutions designated exam centres for the students. But it seems they don’t care about the same,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a student.
Meanwhile depsite repeated attempts concern officials at Kashmir University were not available for comments.
